The Christian Doctrine of the Divine Attributes

Cremer's short, energetic treatise on the divine attributes was admired by both Karl Barth and Wolfhart Pannenberg. Cremer chastises the speculative flights of traditional doctrines of the divine attributes and issues a resounding summons to a more exegetically, economically, and christologically grounded account. Known primarily as a biblical scholar for his Biblico-Theological Lexicon of New Testament Greek, precursor to the monumental TDNT, Cremer shows himself here also an able systematician, with a pastor's eye for the role played by doctrine in the life of congregational and individual faith.

This volume provides summaries of plenary sessions at the July 2000 World Congress of the Systems Sciences--held in conjunction with the 44th annual meeting of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS). The 31 presentations are divided into eight sections: theories for complex systems; emerging foci on systems research and practice; human systems in the 21st century; the challenge of sustainability; the art and science of forecasting in the age of global warming; the Y2K "problem"; the future of systems science; and presidential addresses (from the past, present, and incoming presidents of ISSS). Topics include the history of sociocybernetics, RC51, of the International Sociological Association; systems practice in the UK's Open University; on misdirected systems; the complexity of performance and the instruments of mastery; energy, hierarchy, and money; why the century date change occurred so smoothly; and systems thinking for the 21st century. c. The Holy Spirit and Christian Ethics in the Theology of Klaus Bockmuehl

Klaus Bockmuehl (1931-1989), former Professor for Systematic Theology at Regent College, Vancouver, published outstanding theological ethical works. The questions that Bockmuehl explored have not lost any relevance: How do we know what God's will is in a particular situation? Is Scripture sufficient for ethical decisions or should we listen to God? Does God even speak today? Is there a distinctive Christian ethic? Bockmuehl's central contribution can be found in his emphasis on the seminal role the Holy Spirit plays within Christian ethics, not only as the one who realizes the reign of God in the life of the individual but also as the one guiding the individual in a particular situation. This book is the first in-depth study of Bockmuehl, introducing readers to his theology and ethics, including a short biographical overview, delineating and appraising how he understands the role of the Holy Spirit in Christian ethics. It is not a book without criticism and its own creative contribution. Annette Glaw concludes her fascinating study with a proposal for a relational concept of the Holy Spirit as the loving presence of God in Christian ethics.

God and Humanity in Auschwitz synthesizes the findings of research developed over the last thirty years on the rise of anti-Semitism in our civilization. Donald J. Dietrich sees the Holocaust as a case study of how prejudice has been theologically enculturated. He suggests how it may be controlled by reducing aggressive energy before it becomes overwhelming. Dietrich studies the recent responses of Christian theologians to the Holocaust and the Jewish theological response to questions concerning God's covenant with Israel, which were provoked by Auschwitz. Social science has dealt with the psychosocial dynamics that have supported genocide and helps explain how ordinary persons can produce e...

Reformational Theology

Following the Biblical story line of creation, fall-redemption-consummation, Spykman's "new paradigm" systematics represents a notable revision of the traditional loci method--Spykman has reordered the basic Christian dogmas in a bold attempt to overcome the rationalist-scholastic influences inherent in the older method.
