Zwar ist die Zahl der Leiharbeiter nicht überwältigend groß, doch ist es dieser Beschäftigungsform gelungen, die einfache Arbeit in den industriellen Kernsektoren weitgehend zu übernehmen. Dabei müssen Leiharbeitnehmer gegenüber der Stammbelegschaft deutliche Nachteile in Kauf nehmen, denen nur wenige Vorteile gegenüberstehen - etwa eine leicht erhöhte Chance, einen Dauerarbeitsplatz zu finden. Promberger durchleuchtet in diesem Buch nicht nur die Leiharbeitsbranche mit ihren sozialhistorischen Entstehungszusammenhängen und relevanten Akteuren, sondern auch die Betriebe, die Leiharbeiter einsetzen.
