Space in the Medieval West

In the last two decades, research on spatial paradigms and practices has gained momentum across disciplines and vastly different periods, including the field of medieval studies. Responding to this ’spatial turn’ in the humanities, the essays collected here generate new ideas about how medieval space was defined, constructed, and practiced in Europe, particularly in France. Essays are grouped thematically and in three parts, from specific sites, through the broader shaping of territory by means of socially constructed networks, to the larger geographical realm. The resulting collection builds on existing scholarship but brings new insight, situating medieval constructions of space in relation to contemporary conceptions of the subject.

Photoorganocatalysis In Organic Synthesis

The use of organocatalysts able to photocatalyze an organic reaction is a rapidly growing field. These photocatalyzed transformations are more environmentally sustainable with respect to the use of expensive/toxic metal-based (photo)catalysts.Based on the authors' extensive experience in photogenerated intermediates, this book presents an overview on photocatalyzed organic processes having a synthetic significance, where an organic molecule functions as the photocatalyst. After a brief introduction defining the nature and the characteristics of a photoorganocatalyst (POC), the chapters are organized according to the class of POC used, as detailed below. Each chapter begins with a summary of the photophysical characteristics of the POCs and is followed by selected examples of synthetic applications. The last two chapters are devoted to the adoption of photoorganocatalysis in polymerization and to flow photoorganocatalysis. These in-depth explanations and practical applications make this title an essential reading for any chemistry student interested in organic (sustainable) synthesis.

Recent Advances in Nanoparticle Catalysis

This book provides an overview of the latest developments in the field of nanoparticle catalysis. It not only discusses established topics in detail, but also explores several emerging topics. Catalysis with nanoparticles is expanding exponentially and is attracting significant interest due to the many exciting findings being reported. Mastering the synthesis, characterization, stabilization and use of these catalysts offers numerous possibilities that far exceed those of classic heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis.

Nanoporous Materials

This proceedings volume contains selected and peer-reviewed original oral and poster contributions to be presented at the 5th International Symposium on Nanoporous Materials, Vancouver, Canada, May 25OCo28, 2008. It presents recent scientific advances in the area of nanoporous materials, especially those with ordered pores of sizes between 1 and 50 nm, their synthesis, characterization and applications in adsorption, catalysis, bio-related processes, environmental cleanup and nanotechnology. A unique feature of this volume is the wide variety of nanoporous materials covered, ranging from ordered silica nanostructures, silicas with incorporated organic and inorganic species, ordered nanoporou...

The Chemistry of Organogold Compounds, 2 Volume Set

The first book in the PATAI Series was published in 1964 and the Series will celebrate its 50th Anniversary in 2014. This "Golden Jubilee" is accompanied by the publication of the first volume on the chemistry of organogold. In the history of the PATAI Series there was, so far, no volume dedicated to gold alone. In 1999 we published a volume on The Chemistry of Gold and Silver Compounds. Since then a lot of new chemistry using gold has been developed and it is timely to focus a volume on methods and applications of organogold compounds in organic synthesis, reflecting the enormous progress which has been made in the use of gold compounds as reagents and catalysts. A second area of great impo...
