Das Heft 8 der Reihe "Lesesaal" dokumentiert eine Ausstellung "Verlegt in Niedersachsen - Buchverlage stellen sich vor, die von der Niedersächsischen Landesbibliothek ausgerichtet wurde. Im Katalogteil sind Geschichte, Programm und literarische Ambitionen von 30 niedersächsischen Verlagen, die sich an der Ausstellung beteiligen verzeichnet. Jeder Verlag stellt drei repräsentative Titel seines Programmes aus, deren bibliografische Daten und Inhaltsverzeichnisse ebenfalls im Katalog enthalten sind. The Gentlemen's Tailor
Katja’s fairy tale romance with her dentist comes to an abrupt end when she learns that he is having an affair. Just when it seems that things can’t get any worse, her husband is killed in a car accident. Filled with grief, Katja thinks she is going crazy, but then two mysterious men enter her life: Dr. Frederich Blank and Armin the fireman, whose uniform looks like it came from a costume shop. Armin cannot see Blank, who is recently deceased and has only returned to haunt the neighborhood in hope of visiting his wife one last time. Katja begins a relationship with Armin, which leads to serious consequences, just as holes begin appearing in Dr. Blank. When the doctor starts to fade away, Katja desperately applies bandages to patch his holes. In one moving scene, Blank visits his wife’s apartment and Katja, lifted up in the cherrypicker of Armin’s fire engine, watches the visit through the upper-floor window. But Katja quickly realizes that Blank’s wife cannot see him; she merely continues to kiss her new lover. Blank spends his remaining days easing Katja into her new role as a soon to be mother.

This edited volume constitutes the first serious, sustained examination of the study of children s books for children aged from 0 to 3 with contributions by scholars working in different domains and attempting to assess the recognition of the role and influence of children s literature on the cognitive, linguistic, psychological and aesthetic development of young children. The Stammheim Missal
The Stammheim Missal is one of the most visually dazzling and theologically ambitious works of German Romanesque art. Containing the text recited by the priest and the chants sung by the choir at mass, the manuscript was produced in Lower Saxony around 1160 at Saint Michael's Abbey at Hildesheim, a celebrated abbey in medieval Germany. This informative volume features color illustrations of all the manuscript's major decorations. The author surveys the manuscript, its illuminations, and the circumstances surrounding its creation, then explores the tradition of the illumination of mass books and the representation of Jewish scriptures in Christian art. Teviotdale then considers the iconography of the manuscript's illuminations, identifies and translates many of its numerous Latin inscriptions, and finally considers the missal and its visually sophisticated and religiously complex miniatures as a whole.
