Attention, Balance and Coordination

Attention, Balance and Coordination is the most up-to-date handbook for professionals involved in education and child development, providing a new understanding of the source of specific behavioural problems. Written by a respected author of acclaimed titles in this field Explains why early reflexes are important, their functions in development and their effects on learning, behaviour and beyond - also covers adult neurological dysfunctions anxiety and agoraphobia Builds on an ABC of Attention, Balance and Coordination to create a unique look across specific learning difficulties, linked by common motor skills challenges resulting from neuro-developmental deficiencies Includes the INPP Developmental Screening Questionnaire together with guidance on how to use and interpret it

Neuromotor Immaturity in Children and Adults

Available to healthcare professionals for the first time, this book contains proven screening tests to measure neuromotor immaturity in children and adults in order to provide a basis for referral and help. Allows practitioners to screen for disorders of movement that can negatively affect educational performance and emotional function in children and adolescents Assesses instances where disorders of movement in adults are affecting thoughts and behavior, as in panic disorder Provides a novel approach for health care professionals observing aberrant reflexes in the absence of more serious pathology Includes reproducible scoring and observation sheets for practice and serves as the perfect complement to Assessing Neuromotor Readiness for Learning

A unique overview of research on dyslexia and an account of the underlying causes at cognitive, brain, and neural system levels that provides a framework for significant progress in the understanding of dyslexia and other related learning disabilities. Dyslexia research has made dramatic progress since the mid-1980s. Once discounted as a “middle-class myth,” dyslexia is now the subject of a complex—and confusing—body of theoretical and empirical research. In Dyslexia, Learning, and the Brain, leading dyslexia researchers Roderick Nicolson and Angela Fawcett provide a uniquely broad and coherent analysis of dyslexia theory. Unlike most dyslexia research, which addresses the question ...

Learning Disabilities

It is important to reaffirm the reality of the learning disabilities (LD) phenomenon as a condition that imposes genuine constraints on a student's ability to function, and not as some chimerical entity defined by an ever-changing political situation. Perceptual, memory, attention, linguistic, social, cognitive and neuropsychological factors are an integral part of LD. By mapping out in great detail and with much new data the acquired knowledge on learning disabilities, both empirical and theoretical, this book unravels many mysteries. This book is a landmark in learning disabilities studies, and it lays down solid foundations for future research and practical intervention in the field.

Inverse Problems in Scattering

Inverse Problems in Scattering exposes some of the mathematics which has been developed in attempts to solve the one-dimensional inverse scattering problem. Layered media are treated in Chapters 1--6 and quantum mechanical models in Chapters 7--10. Thus, Chapters 2 and 6 show the connections between matrix theory, Schur's lemma in complex analysis, the Levinson--Durbin algorithm, filter theory, moment problems and orthogonal polynomials. The chapters devoted to the simplest inverse scattering problems in quantum mechanics show how the Gel'fand--Levitan and Marchenko equations arose. The introduction to this problem is an excursion through the inverse problem related to a finite difference version of Schrödinger's equation. One of the basic problems in inverse quantum scattering is to determine what conditions must be imposed on the scattering data to ensure that they correspond to a regular potential, which involves Lebesque integrable functions, which are introduced in Chapter 9.
