In 1977 Peter Milne was 17 and the legendary Australian guitarist Rowland S Howard was 18. For several months they collaborated together on a number of photo sessions. Although many of the images taken in that period were lost or damaged, a number of remarkable photographs have survived and have been drawn together to form this book. Peter Milne writes in the introduction to the book: "I took up photography around this time and we began a busy period of experimental photo sessions during which I was learning to how to use cameras while Rowland was learning how to pose for them....The work is a patchy, scratched up document that shows visible signs of age and neglect but perhaps this is the one absolute inevitability of history and memory - it's always going to be fragmentary."

Boy on Fire

An intensely beautiful, profound and poetic biography of the formative years of the dark prince of rock 'n' roll, Boy on Fire is Nick Cave's creation story, a portrait of the artist first as a boy, then as a young man. A deeply insightful work which charts his family, friends, influences, milieu and, most of all, his music, it reveals how Nick Cave shaped himself into the extraordinary artist he would become. A powerful account of a singular, uncompromising artist, Boy on Fire is also a vivid and evocative rendering of a time and place, from the fast-running dark rivers and ghost gums of country-town Australia to the torn wallpaper, sticky carpet and manic energy of the nascent punk scene which hit staid 1970s Melbourne like an atom bomb. Boy on Fire is a stunning biographical achievement.

He seemed to be always at watch, scanning the immediate environs for anything that might make for an interesting image, anything that was out of sync with 'the norm' Martin Kantor approached his photography with an emotional intensity that exhilarated those around him. Armed with intelligence, wit and curiosity, he documented the painters, musicians and other artists who emerged during the culturally frenetic eighties. Kantor saw the world in sharp focus, evident in both his photojournalism for TheAustralian, and his brilliant portraiture for such magazines as Tension and World Art. He was an adventurous creator, ranging from remaking the rules of rock'n'roll photography to mastering the depiction of contemporary artists in unconventional ways. Martin Kantor (1960-2015) left an archive of intimate images, a window into his extraordinary work and a testament to his enviable talent.
