Research on Innovation in Asian Family Enterprises

The scope and depth of family business research have been quickly expanding in the last two decades. The editors and contributors to this book present eight recent studies examining the impact of external or internal family conditions on the innovation, growth, and succession of family firms in Asia. By examining the influence of families on firm behaviors and decisions, researchers have been pushing the boundaries of this field. As researchers develop a better understanding of how families influence their businesses, the family conditions, including the properties and dynamics of families, have been found to play significant roles in the business decisions. In addition, globalization as a pressing issue has brought new opportunities and challenges to families and their businesses. This volume comprises diverse topics, including less commonly examined issues such as kinship, immigrant family enterprises, and family asset management. This book is a rich resource for researchers, students, and family business consultants.

Daniel Deleanu's Principles of Logosophy, written in "logosophistic English"-a language based on the author's original concept of logoarchetype-breaks all the boundaries of human knowledge through a reinterpretation of the Platonic concept of archetype and of the Logos. Deleanu links C.G.Jung's notion of archetype with that of the Logos, as it appears in Plato, the Stoics, Philo of Alexandria and the Gospel according to John. Making use of an original type of English, whose principal scope is to liberate language and utilize it to express the deeper realities of human knowledge, Daniel Deleanu's new scholarly system, named "logosophism", proves that the world is totally interconnected through the ontic-ontologic dimensions of its main archetype, the Word.

Binding Spell

A case of mistaken identity takes Lark Sedassa from her family's estate and into the power of Kadar Arkalis, the ruler of North Eredor, who thinks he's captured a much greater prize. Although he soon realizes his error, he makes Lark his bride anyway, still hoping to capitalize on her family's connections. Escape is nearly impossible, and before long Lark is not sure whether she even wants to leave. As she struggles with her growing feelings for her captor, Lark must find the strength within herself to draw on powers she doesn't even realize she possesses. Without those powers, she cannot hope to face the evil rising within the kingdom...or save the man she now calls husband. Author’s Note: While this is the third book in this series, all Tales of the Latter Kingdoms novels are written as standalone romances and can be read in any order.

Case, Scope, and Binding

Case, Scope, and Binding investigates the relation between syntax and semantics within a framework which combines the syntactic Government-Binding theory with a novel cross-linguistic theory of case and semantics. It is argued that case assignment, agreement, syntactic binding relations, as well as the minimum scopes of operators, are all determined by the relations which hold at the level of s-structure. Cross-linguistic variation with respect to these phenomena is due to corresponding variations at the s-structure level. The minimum scope of an operator cannot exceed its c-command domain at s-structure, but may be reduced by certain semantic mechanisms. The availability of any wider scope option depends on the possibility of movement at LF. The proposed theory is tested in detail against the facts of Inuit (Eskimo-Aleut family), an ergative language with typologically unusual scope and binding relations. For linguists and philosophers interested in syntax, semantics, or the syntax-semantics interface.
