Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing
The two-volume set LNAI 7894 and LNCS 7895 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing, ICAISC 2013, held in Zakopane, Poland in June 2013. The 112 revised full papers presented together with one invited paper were carefully reviewed and selected from 274 submissions. The 56 papers included in the second volume are organized in the following topical sections: evolutionary algorithms and their applications; data mining; bioinformatics and medical applications; agent systems, robotics and control; artificial intelligence in modeling and simulation; and various problems of artificial intelligence.
Computational Intelligence
This is the proceedings of the International Conference on Intelligent Computing, ICIC 2006, Kunming, China, August 2006. The book presents 165 revised full papers, carefully chosen and reviewed, organized in topical sections on fuzzy systems, fuzzy-neuro-evolutionary hybrids, supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning, intelligent agent and Web applications, intelligent fault diagnosis, natural language processing and expert systems, natural language human-machine interface using artificial neural networks, and intelligent financial engineering.
New Trends in Neural Computation
Neural computation arises from the capacity of nervous tissue to process information and accumulate knowledge in an intelligent manner. Conventional computational machines have encountered enormous difficulties in duplicatingsuch functionalities. This has given rise to the development of Artificial Neural Networks where computation is distributed over a great number of local processing elements with a high degree of connectivityand in which external programming is replaced with supervised and unsupervised learning. The papers presented in this volume are carefully reviewed versions of the talks delivered at the International Workshop on Artificial Neural Networks (IWANN '93) organized by the Universities of Catalonia and the Spanish Open University at Madrid and held at Barcelona, Spain, in June 1993. The 111 papers are organized in seven sections: biological perspectives, mathematical models, learning, self-organizing networks, neural software, hardware implementation, and applications (in five subsections: signal processing and pattern recognition, communications, artificial vision, control and robotics, and other applications).
Computational Neuroscience
This volume includes papers originally presented at the 8th annual Computational Neuroscience meeting (CNS'99) held in July of 1999 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The CNS meetings bring together computational neuroscientists representing many different fields and backgrounds as well as experimental preparations and theoretical approaches. The papers published here range across vast levels of scale from cellular mechanisms to cognitive brain studies. The subjects of the research include many different preparations from invertebrates to humans. In all cases the work described in this volume is focused on understanding how nervous systems compute. The research described includes subjects like neural coding and neuronal dendrites and reflects a trend towards forging links between cognitive research and neurobiology. Accordingly, this volume reflects the breadth and depth of current research in computational neuroscience taking place throughout the world.

From its early beginnings in the fifties and sixties the field of neural networks has been steadily growing. The first wave was driven by a handful of pioneers who first discovered analogies between machines and biological systems in communication, control and computing. Technological constraints held back research considerably, but gradually computers have become less expensive and more accessible and software tools inceasingly more powerful. Mathematical techniques, developed by computer-aware people, have steadily accumulated and the second wave has begun. Digital Business
This volume contains the proceedings of the First International ICST Conference on Digital Business (DigiBiz 2009), hosted by City University London in London, UK. This annual event had the main objective to stimulate and disseminate research results and experimentation on future Digital Business to a wider multidisciplinary forum that would allow the participants to cross the boundaries between research and business. The scientific offering in e-business, e-commerce, and ICT in general is quite broad and spans many different research themes, involving several communities and me- odologies. The growth and dynamic nature of these research themes pose both ch- lenges and opportunities. The challenges are in having scientists and practitioners talk to each other: despite the fact that they work on similar problems they often use very different languages in terms of research tools and approaches.
