Nineteenth International Seaweed Symposium

The Proceedings of the 19th International Seaweed Symposium provides an invaluable reference to a wide range of fields in applied phycology. Papers cover topics as diverse as the systematics, ecology, physiology, integrated multitrophic aquaculture, commercial applications, carbohydrate chemistry and applications, harvesting biology, cultivation of seaweeds and microalgae and more. Contributions from all parts of the world give the volume exceptional relevance in an increasingly global scientific and commercial climate. Like its predecessors, this volume provides a benchmark of progress in all fields of applied seaweed science and management, and will be referred to for many years to come.

Autonomous Experimentation is poised to revolutionize scientific experiments at advanced experimental facilities. Whereas previously, human experimenters were burdened with the laborious task of overseeing each measurement, recent advances in mathematics, machine learning and algorithms have alleviated this burden by enabling automated and intelligent decision-making, minimizing the need for human interference. Illustrating theoretical foundations and incorporating practitioners’ first-hand experiences, this book is a practical guide to successful Autonomous Experimentation. Despite the field’s growing potential, there exists numerous myths and misconceptions surrounding Autonomous Experimentation. Combining insights from theorists, machine-learning engineers and applied scientists, this book aims to lay the foundation for future research and widespread adoption within the scientific community. This book is particularly useful for members of the scientific community looking to improve their research methods but also contains additional insights for students and industry professionals interested in the future of the field.

Phase diagrams are "maps" materials scientists often use to design new materials. They define what compounds and solutions are formed and their respective compositions and amounts when several elements are mixed together under a certain temperature and pressure. This monograph is the most comprehensive reference book on experimental methods for phase diagram determination. It covers a wide range of methods that have been used to determine phase diagrams of metals, ceramics, slags, and hydrides.* Extensive discussion on methodologies of experimental measurements and data assessments * Written by experts around the world, covering both traditional and combinatorial methodologies* A must-read for experimental measurements of phase diagrams

Theory, algorithms, and applications of machine learning techniques to overcome “covariate shift” non-stationarity. As the power of computing has grown over the past few decades, the field of machine learning has advanced rapidly in both theory and practice. Machine learning methods are usually based on the assumption that the data generation mechanism does not change over time. Yet real-world applications of machine learning, including image recognition, natural language processing, speech recognition, robot control, and bioinformatics, often violate this common assumption. Dealing with non-stationarity is one of modern machine learning's greatest challenges. This book focuses on a spec...

This two volume set constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 6th International Conference on Distributed, Ambient and Pervasive Interactions, DAPI 2018, held as part of the 20th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction, HCII 2018, held in Las Vegas, NV, USA in July 2018. The total of 1171 papers and 160 posters presented at the 14 colocated HCII 2018 conferences. The papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 4346 submissions. These papers address the latest research and development efforts and highlight the human aspects of design and use of computing systems. The papers thoroughly cover the entire field of Human-Computer Interaction, addressing major advances in knowledge and effective use of computers in a variety of application areas.. TheLNCS 10921 and LNCS 10922 contains papers addressing the following major topics: Technologies and Contexts ( Part I) and Understanding Humans (Part IΙ)

This volume consists of selected papers from the 2009 meeting of the American Association for Corpus Linguistics. The chapters cover aspects of language use (usage-based accounts of morphology/syntax of English and Tok Pisin), language learning (corpus-based learning of English, syntactic development observable in a Learner Corpus of English, “core” vocabulary items for learners of English) and language documentation (a new and innovative usage-based frequency dictionary of English, proposals to broaden the traditional understanding of a corpus in various directions, e.g., constructing a corpus of the content of Japanese manga comics). Taken together, the thirteen chapters represent a good cross-section of strands of new work in corpus linguistics, as practised by international scholars working on English and other languages.
