The main focus of this report is elementary and secondary public education. It covers seven broad areas of Indiana education since 1980.
As the parent of a child who has or may have a disability, the federal and state laws give them certain rights--called procedural safeguards. If they would like a more detailed explanation of these rights, they should contact the principal of their child's school, a school administrator, their local special education director, or any of the resources listed on the last page of this notice of procedural safeguards (from this point forward referred to as the Notice). This Notice makes reference to the Division which means the Division of Special Education within the Indiana Department of Education (now called the Center for Exceptional Learners, Office of Special Education).
