Getting Intimate
This thesis focuses on the intersections of masculinity, old age and sexuality from the perspectives of old men themselves, how they understand and experience sex and sexuality in later life. The study uses qualitative in-depth interviews and body diaries, an exploratory method that asked men write about their bodies in everyday life. Twenty-two men, born between 1922 and 1942, participated in the study. Remediating Transcultural Memory
The impact of digital global media, geopolitical changes and migration demands new theorizations within memory studies. Despite the growing field of media memory studies, the impact from film and media studies has been scarce within memory studies. This unique study offers new theorizations of three crucial concepts for media memory studies: remediation, transculturality and the archive. This book takes a closer look at the media specificity of archival footage and how it is adapted, translated and appropriated. In its original approach this work reflects upon the role of documentary film images for the construction of memory. By merging film and media studies with memory studies the work offers multiple theoretical and methodological approaches for everyone interested in the heritage of audiovisual media: film and media scholars, memory scholars, historians, art historians, social scientists, librarians or archivists, curators and festival programmers alike.
Shimmering Images
In Shimmering Images Eliza Steinbock traces how cinema offers alternative ways to understand gender transitions through a specific aesthetics of change. Drawing on Barthes's idea of the “shimmer” and Foucault's notion of sex as a mirage, the author shows how sex and gender can appear mirage-like on film, an effect they label shimmering. Critical Studies of Gender Equalities
There is an increasing awareness that gender equality is not something that just "is" in unproblematic and natural ways, but that it may be understood and packaged in several ways, with quite different consequences. It therefore makes good sense to ask, with the authors in this book, how gender equality is understood and practised in the Nordic countries, with their avowedly good record on gender equality measures. It makes especially good sense to look closely at the consequences and difficulties that arise out of the many-faceted meanings attached to "gender" and "equality" in politics and policies, as well as in daily life. In this book, eleven Nordic scholars offer critical analyses of current dislocations, dilemmas and contradictions in the field of Nordic gender equality. They have studied issues to do with constructing state and nation, regulating political practices and producing gendered subjectivities. The authors are affiliated with universities in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden and united in seeing the need for a critical scholarly stance on Nordic gender equality policies and practices.

Termen lesbisk härleds traditionellt till den grekiska ön Lesbos och poeten Sapfos akademi för unga kvinnor. Men vad har ordet kommit att betyda idag? Hur har dess socio-kulturella betydelse förändrats? Hur ser relationen mellan lesbisk och queer ut? Och hur ska vi resonera kring maktstrukturer, historiska och nutida, inom kvinnorörelsen? I L-ordet söker Rosenberg svar på de här komplexa frågorna genom intervjuer med kvinnor och transpersoner som på olika sätt medverkat i diskussionen kring genus och sexualitet i Sverige. Tiina Rosenberg är professor i teatervetenskap vid Stockholms universitet. Sedan debuten med Byxbegär (2000) har hon gett ut ett tiotal böcker berörande ämnen som feminism, queerteori, konst och teater.
