"The extent to which a gap can be identified between the social and market rental sectors in six countries in north-west Europe (England, Flanders (Belgium), France, Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands) is the central issue in this book." -- Book cover.
This book exposes the potential to advance a cultural approach to sustainable urban development. It explores urban "spaces of possibilities" and links them to the seized or missed opportunities for innovative forms of transversal partnerships throughout the city and of culturally sensitive urban policies. The call for sustainability brings with it challenges for which, in view of the urgency of social transformation, institutional innovations are necessary. Sustainable urban development will only succeed through creative impulses, experiments, trying out innovative ideas, and making alternatives visible, in particular through locally rooted urban initiatives, artistic actions, and social mov...
Global population growth, exposure to climate-driven risks, continuous ongoing economic crises, persistent levels of poverty, migration phenomena, exponential increase in the use of digital technology and consequent digital divide, and the urgent demand for more equal spaces are amongst the major drivers of change within the housing sector. This book seeks to envision some of the future housing scenarios, outlining a series of possible transformations that will affect the global housing models in the coming years. The essays in the book are not intended to provide predictions on housing, but rather to try to grasp how social attitudes, economic values, and technologies employed are changing. The issues addressed range from exploring the potential of green and digital strategies both in regenerating existing building heritage and in new construction within developing countries to addressing the humanitarian challenges of climate change and mitigating social inequality.
The present volume in the series focuses on homes, residences, and dwellings. This volume representative-though not comprehensive attempts to provide a sampling of contemporary perspectives on the study of home environments. As in previo...
In this work, an optimization model (MILP) for the energetic refurbishment planning of buildings is developed. It provides decision support for owner-occupiers and/or landlords. The approach considers simultaneously the selection of refurbishment measures, the operation of energy supply technologies (incl. CHP/PV), and the financing structure from an economic point of view. The evaluation scheme is based on a visualization of financial implications and factors public funds into the analysis.
