This is the story of seven years of explorations and adventures among the mountains and steppes of Mongolia, searching the secret tomb of Genghis Khan. Year after year, step by step, the author explored unknown tracks and forbidden places, where breaking the taboos once led to a deadly outcome, remaining loaded with unpredictable dangers to this day. Through a multi-disciplinary research, the author has succeeded in locating the imperial cemetery but, when the search is over, a top secret plot tries to stop him. Is this the proof that research has reached his goal?
Volume Three of Igor de Rachewiltz’s annotated translation of the Secret History of the Mongols (Brill 2004, 2006), now regarded as the standard English version of this epic biography of Činggis Qan, is both a complement and a supplement to the first two volumes. On the one hand it revises and updates the work to the end of 2012, and on the other it introduces new interpretations and ideas about both the identity of its anonymous author and the date of its composition. It is, therefore, an indispensable companion volume for all readers and users of the earliest Mongolian literary production which contains, in the words of Arthur Waley, ‘some of the most vivid primitive literature that exists anywhere in the world.’ The Secret History of the Mongols has been selected by Choice as Outstanding Academic Title (2005).
Weaving early accounts of witchcraft—trial records, ecclesiastical tracts, folklore, and popular iconography—into new and startling patterns, Carlo Ginzburg presents in Ecstasies compelling evidence of a hidden shamanistic culture that flourished across Europe and in England for thousands of years.
The author's more than twenty-year research on Phaistós' disc and on Cretan 'hieroglyphic' writing, offers here a partial but original interpretation of the enigma that, for over a century, engages the scholars of the Minoan civilization. Through the combinatorial method of internal analysis of the hieroglyphic sequence, noted a space free of signs and evaluated the importance of the correction of errors, he demonstrates how the deductions drawn from the superimposition of signs must now be revised, in the light of the deformation of other signs, caused by the impression on the soft clay of the sign on their right. In March 2018, by means of photographic enlargements, he finally discovers on Phaistós' disc a detail never before considered by anyone, which proves in an incontrovertible way the verse of writing from left to right, from the center to the periphery of the disc.
