Biomarkers and Disease Activity in Multiple Sclerosis
This thesis focuses on disease activity in clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) and newly diagnosed relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The papers are based on data from 41 patients in a prospective longitudinal cohort study. All patients were untreated at baseline. Age- and sex-matched healthy controls (n=22) for blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples were recruited from blood donors. Clinical Applications of Synthetic MRI of the Brain
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) has a high soft-tissue contrast with a high sensitivity for detecting pathological changes in the brain. Conventional MRI is a time-consuming method with multiple scans that relies on the visual assessment of the neuroradiologist. Synthetic MRI uses one scan to produce conventional images, but also quantitative maps based on relaxometry, that can be used to quantitatively analyse tissue properties and pathological changes. Negotiating Climate Change in Crisis
Climate change negotiations have failed the world. Despite more than thirty years of high-level, global talks on climate change, we are still seeing carbon emissions rise dramatically. Die Arbeit leistet damit einen Beitrag zur geographischen und governancebezogenen Transformationsforschung und ist ebenfalls für andere Kommunen mit Zielen in den Bereichen Nachhaltigkeit und Klimaschutz relevant.
