Over the last decade, Method Engineering, defined as the engineering discipline to design, construct and adapt methods, including supportive tools, has emerged as the research and application area for using methods for systems development. This book contains the papers from the IFIP Working Group 8.1 conference on Situational Method Engineering.

Enterprise Information Systems VI

This book contains the best papers of the Sixth International Conference on Enterprise Information Systems (ICEIS 2004), held in Porto (Portugal) and organized by INSTICC (Institute for Systems and Technologies of Information, Communication and Control) in collaboration with PORTUCALENSE UNIVERSITY, who hosted the event. Following the route started in 1999, ICEIS has become a major point of contact between research scientists, engineers and practitioners on the area of business applications of information systems. This conference has received an increased interest every year, from especially from the international academic community, and it is now one of the world largest conferences in its area. This year, five simultaneous tracks were held, covering different aspects related to enterprise computing, including: “Databases and Information Systems Integration”, “Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Systems”, “Information Systems Analysis and Specification”, “Software Agents and Internet Computing” and “Human-Computer Interaction”. The sections of this book reflect the conference tracks.

Information Systems Development

This volume is comprised of the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Information Systems Development held August 26th-28th, 2004, at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Vilnius, Lithuania. The aim of this volume is to provide a forum for the research and practices addressing current issues associated with Information Systems Development (ISD). Every day, new technologies, applications, and methods raise the standards for the quality of systems expected by organizations as well as end users. All are becoming dependent on systems reliability, scalability, and performance. Thus, it is crucial to exchange ideas and experiences, and to stimulate exploration of new solutions. This proceedings provides a forum for both technical and organizational issues.

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the International Workshop on Spatio-Temporal Database Management Systems, STDBM'99, held in Edinburgh, UK, in September 1999 as a satelite event of VLDB'99. The 13 revised full papers presented were carefully selected from 30 papers submitted. The book offers topical sections on understanding and manipulating spatio-temporal data; integration, exchange, and visualization; query processing; index evaluation; and constraints and dependencies.

Computational Models of Argument

Argumentation, which has long been a topic of study in philosophy, has become a well-established aspect of computing science in the last 20 years. This book presents the proceedings of the fifth conference on Computational Models of Argument (COMMA), held in Pitlochry, Scotland in September 2014. Work on argumentation is broad, but the COMMA community is distinguished by virtue of its focus on the computational and mathematical aspects of the subject. This focus aims to ensure that methods are sound – that they identify arguments that are correct in some sense – and provide an unambiguous specification for implementation; producing programs that reason in the correct way and building systems capable of natural argument or of recognizing argument. The book contains 24 long papers and 18 short papers, and the 21 demonstrations presented at the conference are represented in the proceedings either by an extended abstract or by association with another paper. The book will be of interest to all those whose work involves argumentation as it relates to artificial intelligence.

Resource Discovery

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Resource Discovery, RED 2010, held in Paris, France, in November 2010. The 13 revised full papers - from 24 initial submissions - were carefully selected during a second round of reviewing and improvement from the lectures given at the workshop and are presented in extended version in the book. They deal with the following topics: resource discovery for composition; bioinformatics resource discovery; textual resource discovery; and Web service discovery.

This book contains the refereed proceedings of the Second International Conference on Exploring Services Science (IESS) that was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in February 2010. Based on the previous edition and the momentum in this emerging and exciting field, IESS 2011 offered academics, researchers, and practitioners from various disciplines an exploratory platform to communicate and share their results and experiences. The 17 full and 2 short papers accepted for IESS were selected from 47 submissions and cover the whole life cycle of service development (including service innovation, service design, service composition, and service sustainability) as well as the application of services in information technology, businesses, and public administration.

Spatio-Temporal Databases

This book is an introduction and source book for practitioners, graduate s- dents, and researchers interested in the state of the art and practice in spatiot- poral databases. It collects the most important and representative research c- ried out in the project CHOROCHRONOS and presents it in a uni?ed fashion. CHOROCHRONOS was a Training and Mobility Research Network funded by the European Commission with the objective to study the design, implemen- tion, and application of spatiotemporal database management systems. This book would never have been possible if it was not for the devoted work of many people. First and foremost, we would like to thank the authors of the nine chapters of this b...
