Late Gothic Painting in the Crown of Aragon and the Hispanic Kingdoms
This book aims to analyze the genesis and evolution of late Gothic painting in the Crown of Aragon and the rest of the Hispanic kingdoms, examining this phenomenon in relation to the whole context of Europe in the second half of the fifteenth century. The authors consider the influence of the Flemish primitive movement on the art produced by their Spanish colleagues, the artistic relations and interchanges with the Netherlands and other countries, and the introduction and development of the Flemish language in the Spanish lands. The book also examines altarpieces, considering topics such as changes in shape and structure and liturgical links, along with offering stylistic analyses supported by new technologies. L'Època del Barroc i els Bonifàs
Recull les ponències i comunicacions presentades i discutides dins les Jornades d’història de l’art a Catalunya, que es celebraren a Valls al juny del 2006, i que fou un marc de trobada obert entre investigadors universitaris i els estudiosos del nostre patrimoni barroc que treballen en l’àmbit dels museus, en els centres d’estudis comarcals i locals, i en el camp de la restauració-conservació. La proposta en el seu dia avançada pel Museu de Valls va ser recollida, atesa l’excel lència de la tradició artística barroca de la ciutat, amb la figura insigne de Lluís Bonifàs i Massó (1730-1786), de qui celebràvem els 275 anys del naixement, i la del seu germà Francesc Bonifàs (1735-1806), de qui es complien 200 anys de la mort. D’altra banda, l’origen vallenc de l’arquitecte i historiador Cèsar Martinell i Brunet (1888-1973), il lustre precursor en la reivindicació i en l’estudi de l’escultura i l’arquitectura barroques feien encara més adient la seu de Valls per a aquestes Jornades.

Performing Memories
What is memory today? How can it be approached? Why does the contemporary world seem to be more and more haunted by different types of memories still asking for elaboration? Which artistic experiences have explored and defined memory in meaningful ways? How do technologies and the media have changed it? These are just some of the questions developed in this collection of essays analysing memory and memory shapes, which explores the different ways in which past time and its elaboration have been, and still are, elaborated, discussed, written or filmed, and contested, but also shared. By gathering together scholars from different fields of investigation, this book explores the cultural, social and artistic tensions in representing the past and the present, in understanding our legacies, and in approaching historical time and experience. Through the analysis of different representations of memory, and the investigation of literature, anthropology, myth and storytelling, a space of theories and discourses about the symbolic and cultural spaces of memory representation is developed.
