Parallel to the physical space in our world, there exists cyberspace. In the physical space, there are human and nature interactions that produce products and services. On the other hand, in cyberspace there are interactions between humans and computer that also produce products and services. L'abrogation, en mars 1984 - sous la pression de Damas - de l'accord israélo-libanais du 17 mai 1983, et la signature d'un pacte, le 28 décembre 1985, entre les dirigeants chiites d'Amal, ceux du Parti socialiste progressiste (druzes), et les forces chrétiennes - sous la direction d'Élie Hobeika - témoignent du rôle déterminant joué par Damas au Liban, et par extension au Proche et au Moyen-Orient. Le président Hafez-el-Assad arrive au pouvoir en 1970, il souhaite moderniser son pays, et atténuer l'isolement diplomatique de Damas. Cette nouvelle orientation le contraint à exercer des pressions sur le parti Baas, afin de tempérer sa fermeté idéologique, et à maîtriser les nombreuses solidarités sub-nationales, qui divisent la société syrienne, et risquent de fragiliser le pouvoir en place.
