The Herpesviruses provides information pertinent to all the herpesviruses, with emphasis on the classification, morphology, replication, physical–chemical properties, and immunological relationships of all the herpesviruses. This book presents the fundamental and clinical aspects of the viruses. Organized into 21 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the classification of the herpesvirus and proceeds to explore the origins and phylogeny of the herpesviruses. This text then examines the earliest electron microscopic studies on the morphology of the herpesviruses by using shadowcast preparations of herpes simplex virus and of herpes zoster virus. Other chapters consider the serological tests as well as the antigenic relationships among herpesviruses. The final chapter deals with the clinical application of antiviral drug treatment. This book is a valuable resource for virologists, molecular biologists, veterinarians, physicians, as well as teachers and graduate students who are interested in the herpesviruses from either a fundamental or clinical viewpoint.

Biological Barriers to Protein Delivery

A current and critical review of information regarding peptide and protein transport and metabolism as it relates to delivery of endogenous (physiological ligands) and recombinant proteins to mammalian organs, tissues, and cells. Each chapter emphasizes mechanisms of transport including quantitative evidence and structure/function (cause/effect) relationships. The volume is intended to be a comprehensive, state-of-the-art treatise for use by academic and industrial scientists who either are just beginning or are entrenched in the field of protein drug delivery. Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics of Cancer Metastasis

The success rate for treatment of primary neoplasms has improved sig nificantly due to improved surgical, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy methods, and by supportive patient care. In contrast, the treatment of cancer metastases, the cause of most cancer deaths, has not been very successful. Approximately 50% or more of patients with primary malignant neoplasms already have established metastases. Consequently, the most important problem in cancer treatment is the destruction or prevention of metastases. Metastases research has obvious clinical importance. Yet it has only been recently that investigators have attempted to study the mechanisms in volved in this process. This is in part due to th...
