This book systemically presents the latest research on renal fibrosis, covering all the major topics in the field, including the possible mechanisms, biomarkers, and strategies for prevention and treatment of chronic kidney disease (CKD). Due to its high prevalence, CKD represents a huge global economic and social burden. Irrespective of the initial causes, CKD progresses to end stage kidney disease (ESKD) due to renal fibrosis, which is characterized by glomerulosclerosis, tubule atrophy and atresia, and the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the kidney. Unfortunately, an estimated 1%-2% of the adult population living with CKD will need renal replacement therapy at some...

This book describes the role and fundamental aspects of the diverse ranges of nanostructured materials for energy applications in a comprehensive manner. Advanced nanomaterial is an important and interdisciplinary field which includes science and technology. This work thus gives the reader an in depth analysis focussed on particular nanomaterials and systems applicable for technologies such as clean fuel, hydrogen generation, absorption and storage, supercapacitors, battery applications and more. Furthermore, it not only aims to exploit certain nanomaterials for technology transfer, but also exploits a wide knowledge on avenues such as biomass-derived nanomaterials, carbon dioxide conversions into renewable fuel chemicals using nanomaterials. These are the areas with lacunae that demand more research and application.

Cryptanalysis-Driven Chaotic Image Encryption and Its Applications

Chaos cryptography is an inter discipline that combines chaotic theory and cryptography, which includes chaotic secure communication system, chaotic symmetric cipher, chaotic public key cipher and chaotic hash function [1]. In this academic monograph, the main object of our discussion is symmetric chaotic cryptography. The block diagram of symmetrical encryption and communication transmission is shown as Figure 1 [2]. The encryption process is ( , ) EK =CP, in which P means plaintext while K means secret key and () E ? represents encryption function. Alice sends the ciphertext which has been encrypted to Bob, the receiving end. Bob makes use of the same secret key which is sent by a secure channel to decrypt and recover the original plaintext ( , ) DK =PC, in which ()D ? is the decryption function. For an attacker Oscar, the ciphertext C is available but the secret key for the secure channel transmission is not known.

As businesses navigate the complex landscape of environmental sustainability and corporate responsibility, they often need help to effectively integrate Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) principles with Total Quality Management (TQM) practices. This disconnect hinders their ability to meet evolving consumer demands, comply with stringent regulations, and achieve long-term sustainability goals. The lack of integration between ESG and TQM also leads to missed opportunities for synergies and efficiencies, ultimately impacting the bottom line. ESG and Total Quality Management in Human Resources addresses this critical challenge by providing a comprehensive framework for integrating ESG and TQM principles, particularly within human resources. Based on the latest research and real-world examples, this book offers actionable insights and solutions for integrating ESG and TQM practices to improve organizational sustainability and performance. It equips business leaders, managers, and academics with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of sustainability and quality management in today's competitive business environment.

Plant Responses to Salt Stress

Plant Responses to Salt Stress

Feeding the growing world population will require a significant increase in agricultural production. However, food overproduction needs to be achieved while crops and plants face salinized soils, water deficits, lesser arable lands, drought, and climate change, among other factors. Salinity impairs plant functioning at multiple levels. For instance, excess salt contents cause higher osmotic pressures, nutritional disorders, seed germination inhibition, and growth suppression. Plants respond to this aggression by activating several metabolic pathways, including but not limited to regulating hormone-dependent processes, repressing growth-related genes, and eliciting the antioxidant response sy...

Education in the Structure of the Social and Investment Model of Economic Growth: Scenarios of Development and Mechanisms of Management

The importance of the formation of a socially-oriented market economy grew due to the adoption of the global goals in the sphere of sustainable development. For practical implementation of this idea in the modern economic systems, there’s a necessity for a new – social and investment – model of economic growth. The essence and the main difference of this model from the traditional model of economic growth are the sources of growth are social investments – investments in humans and an increase in the population’s quality of life.

Water and Wastewater Treatment

The use of water, one of the most valuable and vital resources in the world, should respond to growing needs, and used water should not have negative effects on the environment. Research on the reduction of used water and wastewater quantities, post-use treatment, or reuse/recovery methods is increasing day by day. These studies focus on finding the most appropriate method from both technical and economic perspectives. In this book, emerging technologies and materials used in the treatment, reuse, or recovery of various kinds of water and wastewaters are examined. The book consists of valuable scientific research specifically including desalination and use of renewable energy, nanomaterials, biosorbents, photocatalytic treatment, as well as riverbank filtration and wetlands. The editor would like to record his sincere thanks to the authors for their contributions.
