This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Parallel Problem Solving from Nature, PPSN 2013, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, in September 2014. The total of 90 revised full papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 217 submissions. The meeting began with 7 workshops which offered an ideal opportunity to explore specific topics in evolutionary computation, bio-inspired computing and metaheuristics. PPSN XIII also included 9 tutorials. The papers are organized in topical sections on adaption, self-adaption and parameter tuning; classifier system, differential evolution and swarm intelligence; coevolution and artificial immune systems; constraint handling; dynamic and uncertain environments; estimation of distribution algorithms and metamodelling; genetic programming; multi-objective optimisation; parallel algorithms and hardware implementations; real world applications; and theory.
Bioinspired Optimization Methods and Their Applications
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 10th International Conference on Bioinspired Optimization Methods and Their Applications, BIOMA 2022, held in Maribor, Slovenia, in November 2022. The 19 full papers presented in this book were carefully reviewed and selected from 23 submissions. The papers in this BIOMA proceedings specialized in bioinspired algorithms as a means for solving the optimization problems and came in two categories: theoretical studies and methodology advancements on the one hand, and algorithm adjustments and their applications on the other.
Number Theory
This volume is based on the successful 6th ChinaOCoJapan Seminar on number theory that was held in Shanghai Jiao Tong University in August 2011. It is a compilation of survey papers as well as original works by distinguished researchers in their respective fields. The topics range from traditional analytic number theory OCo additive problems, divisor problems, Diophantine equations OCo to elliptic curves and automorphic L-functions. It contains new developments in number theory and the topics complement the existing two volumes from the previous seminars which can be found in the same book series.

Metaheuristics for Machine Learning
Using metaheuristics to enhance machine learning techniques has become trendy and has achieved major successes in both supervised (classification and regression) and unsupervised (clustering and rule mining) problems. Furthermore, automatically generating programs via metaheuristics, as a form of evolutionary computation and swarm intelligence, has now gained widespread popularity. This book investigates different ways of integrating metaheuristics into machine learning techniques, from both theoretical and practical standpoints. It explores how metaheuristics can be adapted in order to enhance machine learning tools and presents an overview of the main metaheuristic programming methods. Moreover, real-world applications are provided for illustration, e.g., in clustering, big data, machine health monitoring, underwater sonar targets, and banking.
Number Theory and Its Applications
This book emphasizes the role of symmetry and presents as many viewpoints as possible of an important phenomenon — the functional equation of the associated zeta-function. It starts from the basics before warping into the space of new interest; from the ground state to the excited state. For example, the Euler function is treated in several different places, as the number of generators of a finite cyclic group, as one counting the order of the multiplicative group of reduced residue classes modulo q, and as the order and degree of the Galois group of the cyclotomic field, respectively. One of the important principles of learning is to work with the material many times. This book presents many worked-out examples and exercises to enhance the reader's comprehension on the topics covered in an in-depth manner. This is done in a different setting each time such that the reader will always be challenged. Rules and Reasoning
This book constitutes the proceedings of the International Joint Conference on Rules and Reasoning, RuleML+RR 2021, held in Leuven, Belgium, during September, 2021. This is the 5th conference of a new series, joining the efforts of two existing conference series, namely “RuleML” (International Web Rule Symposium) and “RR” (Web Reasoning and Rule Systems). The 17 full research papers presented together with 2 short technical communications papers and 2 abstracts of invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 39 submissions.

“Number Theory and Related Fields” collects contributions based on the proceedings of the "International Number Theory Conference in Memory of Alf van der Poorten," hosted by CARMA and held March 12-16th 2012 at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
