This book has been the culmination of over forty years of study on the concept of defending the Christian faith against false religions and cults that oppose that faith by exposing them. Since 2007, the study took on a more academic-researched scholarly tone while writing one chapter in the doctoral work. It was during that time frame that studying the false religions and cults took on a more focused biblical, historical, and Christian orthodox direction. So the foundation of this book uses the "Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds (Tares)" in Matthew 13:24-30, 36-43 and a clear understanding of the core orthodox Christian beliefs as the standard for Christians to compare the kingdom of God versus the kingdom of darkness (and God's truth versus Satan's lies/error) throughout biblical history, from the Garden of Eden to the present day, especially as the day of Jesus Christ's return so rapidly approaches.
This book is the first collection to feature histories of women in Western Esotericism while also highlighting women’s scholarship. In addition to providing a critical examination of important and under researched figures in the history of Western Esotericism, these fifteen essays also contribute to current debates in the study of esotericism about the very nature of the field itself. The chapters are divided into four thematic sections that address current topics in the study of esotericism: race and othering, femininity, power and leadership and embodiment. This collection not only adds important voices to the story of Western Esotericism, it hopes to change the way the story is told.
The past century has born witness to a growing interest in the belief systems of ancient Europe, with an array of contemporary Pagan groups claiming to revive these old ways for the needs of the modern world. By far the largest and best known of these Paganisms has been Wicca, a new religious movement that can now count hundreds of thousands of adherents worldwide. Emerging from the occult milieu of mid twentieth-century Britain, Wicca was first presented as the survival of an ancient pre-Christian Witch-Cult, whose participants assembled in covens to venerate their Horned God and Mother Goddess, to celebrate seasonal festivities, and to cast spells by the light of the full moon. Witchcraft, or the Old Religion, is probably the only religion that has not discriminated against women. In many branches the Goddess is superior to the male God, in others they are equal. This book defines the roots of the Old Religion as practiced today by witches of many different traditions, and explains the differences between true witches, old religionists, pop witches, Christian-defined witches, and satanists. Exploring the paranormal through musical phenomena, this encyclopedia covers a range of anomalies, from musical mediumship to locations throughout the world where music has been heard with no obvious source. Other manifestations, such as the abilities of musical savants and the anesthetic use of music during surgical procedures, are included with a focus on paraphysical aspects. Entries describe examples from earliest history up to the present--interpretation is left to the reader. Broader themes and concepts are discussed in appendices, with additional references provided for further study.
A rigorously researched biography of the founder of modern magick, as well as a study of the occult, sexuality, Eastern religion, and more The name “Aleister Crowley” instantly conjures visions of diabolic ceremonies and orgiastic indulgences—and while the sardonic Crowley would perhaps be the last to challenge such a view, he was also much more than “the Beast,” as this authoritative biography shows. Perdurabo—entitled after the magical name Crowley chose when inducted into the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn—traces Crowley’s remarkable journey from his birth as the only son of a wealthy lay preacher to his death in a boarding house as the world’s foremost authority on m...
