GOLF

When learning Thomsen was writing Golf: Find Center, Enter the Circle, many had emphasized the diversity of golf due to its natural setting, and golf's natural setting was open to amateurs, professionals, and all ages also. Thomsen was quick to agree. "Golf can serve the needs of many. It's my job to open up to more and increase the standards within the art form--golf." Thomsen said. Some have asked, "Who do you think will read it, Jack?" "Few," came the reply. "Golfers mainly, and only the most obsessive of those. There's no popular market for this book. Materialism is too much in demand, and serving the spirit has become lost in the equation." That brief exchange reveals an unvarnished tru...

Veterans' Reemployment Rights

In the wake of the ongoing conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, thousands of current and former military servicemembers are undergoing a transition between their military service and their civilian employment. Congress enacted the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) to protect the employment and reemployment rights of federal and nonfederal employees when they leave their employment to perform military or other uniformed service. Among other rights, servicemembers who meet the statutory requirements are entitled to reinstatement to the positions they would have held if they had never left their employment or to positions of like seniority, status, and pay. This report focuses on servicemembers who are employees of, prior employees of, and applicants to, federal executive agencies. The objective was to determine the extent to which the methods and procedures the Dept. of Labor (DOL) and the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) selected for the demonstration project allow for a later assessment and comparison of the agencies' relative performance investigating and resolving USERRA claims. Figures. This is a print on demand report.

The ancient tales of long-dead civilizations to the wild success of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, fantasy has fired our imaginations for as long as there has been story. Whether sweeping sagas of fantastic adventures or cautionary tales told around the campfire, fantasy is deeply woven into the very fabric of humanity, wearing many faces and coming in many flavors. But what fantasy is distinctly American? The American Fantasy Tradition sets out to answer this very question. This comprehensive critical anthology of American fantasy literature applies the groundbreaking theorems of such esteemed American literary critics as Leslie Fiedler, Richard Chase, and Irving Howe to the genre ...
