Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control

Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control

Modern industrial processes and systems require adaptable advanced control protocols able to deal with circumstances demanding "judgement” rather than simple "yes/no”, "on/off” responses: circumstances where a linguistic description is often more relevant than a cut-and-dried numerical one. The ability of fuzzy systems to handle numeric and linguistic information within a single framework renders them efficacious for this purpose. Fuzzy Logic, Identification and Predictive Control first shows you how to construct static and dynamic fuzzy models using the numerical data from a variety of real industrial systems and simulations. The second part exploits such models to design control systems employing techniques like data mining. This monograph presents a combination of fuzzy control theory and industrial serviceability that will make a telling contribution to your research whether in the academic or industrial sphere and also serves as a fine roundup of the fuzzy control area for the graduate student.

Variational Regularization of 3D Data

Variational Regularization of 3D Data provides an introduction to variational methods for data modelling and its application in computer vision. In this book, the authors identify interpolation as an inverse problem that can be solved by Tikhonov regularization. The proposed solutions are generalizations of one-dimensional splines, applicable to n-dimensional data and the central idea is that these splines can be obtained by regularization theory using a trade-off between the fidelity of the data and smoothness properties. As a foundation, the authors present a comprehensive guide to the necessary fundamentals of functional analysis and variational calculus, as well as splines. The implementation and numerical experiments are illustrated using MATLAB®. The book also includes the necessary theoretical background for approximation methods and some details of the computer implementation of the algorithms. A working knowledge of multivariable calculus and basic vector and matrix methods should serve as an adequate prerequisite.

Assessment methods can largely determine what and how students learn, so it is vital that our assessment methods are appropriate to our true educational purposes. This book examines the issues underlying assessment procedures, such as truth, fairness, trust, humanity and social justice and goes on to consider the five key dimensions of assessment: * why assess? * what to assess? * how to assess? * How to interpret? * How to respond? Having guided us through the many conceptual and terminological traps, the book ends constructively with seventeen proposals for making assessment work in the best interests of our students.

Handbook of PI and PID Controller Tuning Rules

The vast majority of automatic controllers used to compensate industrial processes are of PI or PID type. This book comprehensively compiles, using a unified notation, tuning rules for these controllers proposed over the last seven decades (1935OCo2005). The tuning rules are carefully categorized and application information about each rule is given. The book discusses controller architecture and process modeling issues, as well as the performance and robustness of loops compensated with PI or PID controllers. This unique publication brings together in an easy-to-use format material previously published in a large number of papers and books. This wholly revised second edition extends the pres...
