A presente obra visa fazer uma análise do instituto jurídico da adoção, desde os seus primeiros primados nos Direitos Romano e Grego até os dias atuais, com enfoque na importância dada a manifestação dos pais biológicos em todos esses períodos. O que se observa é que esta manifestação foi perdendo força dentro do direito, sendo alegado em seu desfavor a possibilidade de comercialização de crianças e adolescentes. O que se tem em mente com o presente texto é apresentar uma nova perspectiva da adoção intuito personae, quando se leva em consideração a escolha dos pais biológicos sobre quem deve adotar o filho que não poderão cuidar, podendo tal atitude ser vista como um procedimento mais célere, posto que não haverá a necessidade de busca, na família extensa, de possíveis guardiões para a criança/adolescente, o que vem fazendo os processos de adoção se prolongarem muito.
