This book presents the thoroughly refereed post-workshop proceedings of the 9th International Workshop on Languages and Compilers for Parallel Computing, LCPC'96, held in San Jose, California, in August 1996. The advent of multicore processors has renewed interest in the idea of incorporating transactions into the programming model used to write parallel programs.
