The New Common
This open access book presents the scientific views of some fifty experts on how they believe the COVID-19 pandemic is currently affecting society, and how it will continue to do so in the years to come. Using the concept of a “common” (in the sense of common values, common places, common goods, and common sense), they elaborate on the transition from an Old Common to a New Common. In carefully crafted chapters, the authors address expected shifts in major fields like health, education, finance, business, work, and citizenship, applying concepts from law, psychology, economics, sociology, religious studies, and computer science to do so. Many of the authors anticipate an acceleration of the digital transformation in the forthcoming years, but at the same time, they argue that a successful shift to a new common can only be achieved by re-evaluating life on our planet, strengthening resilience at an individual level, and assuming more responsibility at a societal level.
Exploring Kenosis Spirituality: The Implications for the CMI's Spiritual Formation
This dissertation is a study of kenosis spirituality aimed at determining how the spiritual formation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) can be effectively infused with a more profound and genuine understanding of kenosis spirituality. Employing a communication-oriented method involving three interconnected and progressive steps, namely, an analysis of syntax, semantics and pragmatics, and concentrating on the role of the text-immanent reader, this study conducts an in-depth textual analysis of five key texts. These have been chosen from the Bible, the Eastern and the Western monastic traditions, the early writings of the CMI, and the Indian Christian Ashram to ascertain a deeper understanding of kenosis spirituality. The study subsequently considers how to introduce insights regarding kenosis into the CMI's spiritual formation. Pratheesh Michael Pulickal, from Kerala, India, a Catholic priest of the Syro-Malabar rite, belongs to the CMI Congregation.
The Gospel of Luke as Masterpiece
This volume offers fifteen studies on the Gospel of Luke by Nico Riemersma, who specialized in this gospel. It contains both articles in which special pericopes from the Gospel of Luke are central (Marys visit to Elizabeth in Luke 1,39-56; the twelve-year-old Jesus in de temple, in Luke 2,40-52; the baptism of Jesus in 3,21-23 and his testing in 4,1-13; the Fernheilung of a centurions slave in 7,1-10 and the raising of a young man at Naïn in 7,11-17) and studies on details (??????? in Luke 1,3; ?? ???? ??? ?????? ??? in Luke 2,49; ???????? in 7,14 and ? ????????? in 7,19.20). In addition, there are thematic studies (the parallelism between John and Jesus, Elijah in relationship with John and Jesus; the travelling motif in Luke-Acts) and articles with an eye for the structure (of the overture, 1,5-2,52 and of the whole book, 1,1-24,53). Through close reading, the book reveals Lukes high-quality literary form and rich theological content. This meticulous way of reading allows for a deeper understanding of the text, giving this gospel extra shine. This method is extremely helpful in solving text problems that the reader(s) will face.
The Bride of Christ - A Metaphor for the Church
Lumen gentium, the Dogmatic Constitution on the Church of the Second Vatican Council, uses various images to speak about the Church. This study is about the Church as the Bride of Christ. Unlike the great images of the Church as the People of God and the Body of Christ, the image of the Church as the Bride of Christ has never been extensively examined since the Second Vatican Council. The current research is a biblical and systematic-theological study of this image. Its main question is what this metaphor can tell us about the essence of the Church, and what its consequences are for the life of the Church today.
Valid Values
It is a challenge to talk about values and a provocation to call them "valid". But it is necessary when human dignity is at stake. Freedom, love, truth and life determine and protect this dignity. The highest value is life; when it is threatened, one loses the experience of dignity. Mere autonomy going beyond value-oriented freedom can threaten life, physically and psychologically. If we do not respect our livelihoods, we threaten them. Genuine love of one's neighbour prevents tolerance from turning into populist, intolerant ideologies. Dignity as the standard for our coexistence gives rise to hope. Therefore, this book invites us to think, feel and act responsibly for a life in fullness (John 10:10).
The Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church
The strong relationship between the Bible and the sacraments of the Catholic Church is generally accepted in theology. This monograph approaches this relationship from a synchronic perspective. This fresh perspective opens up new windows providing insight into similarities found in the various rites, in and outside the Catholic Church. For example, the basic biblical pattern of the celebration of the Eucharist / Last Supper appears to be standard. It also poses critical questions regarding sacramental theology in general, especially to the problematic equation of the proper name Jesus and the title Christ.

Wir haben eine Kirche, haben Sie eine Idee?
Wenn sich Kirchen leeren, stellt sich früher oder später die Frage, wie mit den Gebäuden künftig umzugehen ist. Entsprechend sind Konzepte gefragt, die in kreativer Weise versuchen, den Leerstand positiv nutzbar zu machen. Das Stuttgarter Pilotprojekt "St. Maria als - Wir haben eine Kirche, haben Sie eine Idee?" zeigt seit einigen Jahren beispielhaft, wie vielfältige Raumnutzungen für die Menschen der Stadt generiert werden. Mit raumsensibler Empirie und pastoralgeographischer Heuristik untersucht die Studie den Kirchenraum auf die räumlichen Wahrnehmungen der Menschen vor Ort, um neue Raumpotenziale freizulegen. Dabei werden theologische Lernfelder entfaltet und Spuren des Evangeliums offengelegt.
Die Kirche und ihr Personal
Kreativ, unkonventionell und oft unter fragwürdigen Rahmenbedingungen: Herausforderungen des kirchlichen Lebens ließen im 20. Jahrhundert verschiedene Berufe von "Laien" im kirchlichen Dienst entstehen. Ihre Bandbreite ist groß - größer, als Konzepte vom Amt in der Kirche bisweilen erscheinen lassen. Die Studie fragt nach der jeweiligen Zuordnung und faktischen Passung von Amt, Person und Aufgabe, wie sie in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart ausgebildet und ausgeübt werden, insbesondere von Seelsorgehelferinnen, Gemeinde- und Pastoralreferenten/-innen. Zukunftsvisionen werden entwickelt. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt auf der Situation der Kirche in der ostdeutschen Diaspora. Zur Sprache kommen jeweils historische, systematische und liturgietheologische Erwägungen. Erfahrungen werden gesammelt und reflektiert, pastoralpraktische Sondierungen vorgenommen.
