The International Journal of Child and Family Welfare (IJCFW) is an official publication of the European Scientific Association on Residential and Family Care for Children and Adolescents (EUSARF). The journal is a multidisciplinary, peer-reviewed publication. The International Journal of Child and Family Welfare publishes empirical papers (including meta-analyses) and review papers, dealing with issues related to all fields of child and family welfare and with issues related to child and youth care (e.g., home-based care, family foster care, residential youth care). The journal is specifically interested in studies that focus on care and treatment processes in association with outcomes and effects; these studies can generate more insights into how interventions work and what care aspects make a difference for vulnerabe children and families.
Young People's Transitions from Care to Adulthood
The transition from care into adulthood is a difficult step for any young person, but young people leaving care have a high risk of social exclusion, both in terms of material disadvantage and marginalisation. In Young People's Transitions from Care to Adulthood leading academics gather together the latest international research relating to the transition of young people leaving care, outlining and comparing the range of legal and policy frameworks, welfare regimes and innovative practice across 16 countries. The book also highlights the variations that exist between different groups leaving care. Featuring key messages for policy and practice, this book will give academics, practitioners and policymakers valuable insights into how to encourage resilience and improve outcomes for care leavers.
International Perspectives of Crime Prevention 12
The German Prevention Congress [Deutscher Präventionstag – DPT] (former German Congress on Crime Prevention – GCOCP) is an annual event that takes place since 1995 in different German cities and targets all areas of crime prevention. Since its foundation the German Prevention Congress has been open to an international audience with a growing number of non-German speaking participants joining. To give the international guests their own discussion forum, the Annual International Forum (AIF) was established in 2007. For international guests this event offers lectures in English language as well as other activities within the German Prevention Congress that are translated simultaneously. This book reflects the outcomes of the 13th AIF (20 and 21 May 2019 in Berlin) and of the 14th AIF (10 and 11 May 2021 in Cologne). The articles show worldwide views on crime prevention and criminal policy as well as the current status, discussion, research and projects in crime prevention from different countries.
Inleiding in de Orthopedagogiek
Het beroep van orthopedagoog heeft in Nederland en België een wettelijke erkenning, wat eisen stelt aan de opleiding, zowel academisch als postacademisch. In deze Inleiding in de Orthopedagogiek gaan de auteurs vanuit hun ruime ervaring in onderzoek, onderwijs en klinische praktijk in op de achtergronden en belangrijkste pijlers van de orthopedagogische discipline. Het vormt een onmisbare basis voor verdere studie. Orthopedagogiek is een handelingsgerichte discipline met een kenmerkend wetenschappelijk onderzoeks- en onderwijsprogramma. Centraal in het onderzoek staan de beschrijving, verklaring en aanpak van (dreigende) problemen bij het opvoeden. Het gaat daarbij zowel om op zichzelf staande opvoedingsproblemen met een mismatch tussen pedagogische vraag en aanbod, als om ernstige leer-, gedrags- en ontwikkelingsproblemen die zich binnen de (multiculturele) samenleving voordoen. Orthopedagogen in opleiding raken op de hoogte van de opbrengsten van het wetenschappelijk onderzoek en leren de toepassing ervan in de concrete, klinische hulpverlening. Diagnostiek en behandeling (inclusief preventie) krijgen daarbij ruime aandacht.

Children and parents have become a focus of debates on ‘new social risks’ in European welfare states. Policymaking elites have converged in defining such risks, and they have outlined new forms of parenting support to better safeguard children and activate their potential. Increasingly, parents are suspected of falling short of public expectations. In the last couple of years, in research, policy and practice concerning the care and treatment of vulnerable and troublesome children and their families, a lot of attention has been paid to the question of the effectiveness of the applied interventions: do they work? Our knowledge about 'evidence based' approaches to effective child, youth and family interventions has been growing during the last decade.
Het pedagogisch quotiënt
De kernvraag van dit boek is: wat is de pedagogische kwaliteit? Is het mogelijk hiervoor normen te ontwikkelen? Welke kwaliteitseisen kun je opstellen bij de beoordeling van gezinnen, ouders, agogische instellingen en hen die hierbij beroepshalve betrokken zijn? Dit boek geeft antwoord op de vragen die betrekking hebben op de pedagogische kwaliteiten van professionals (en instanties) als het gaat om opvoeding, hulpverlening, onderwijs en educatie. Dit gebeurt vanuit vier perspectieven: een algemeen pedagogisch perspectief, een orthopedagogisch perspectief, een onderwijskundig perspectief en een andragogisch perspectief.Dit boek bestaat uit twee delen: een deel over opvoeding en hulpverlening en een deel over onderwijs en educatie.
Verzwaarde opvoeding en ontwikkeling verlichten
Het aantal kinderen en jongeren in Nederland dat, al dan niet samen met hun ouders, een beroep doet op een vorm van jeugdhulp, is groot. Het gaat om tien tot twintig procent van de minderjarigen. Een zowel wetenschappelijk als maatschappelijk cruciale kwestie is of deze jeugdhulp ook werkt: Slaagt de ingezette hulp erin (zwaar)belaste opvoedingssituaties te verlichten en de positieve ontwikkeling van kwetsbare kinderen te bevorderen? En waarom: Wat speelt zich af in de ‘black box’ van de hulpverlening dat een verklaring biedt voor meer of mindere werkzaamheid? Deze vragen vormen het hart van het onderzoeksprogramma dat binnen de Afdeling Orthopedagogiek van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen onder leiding van de auteur werd en wordt uitgevoerd door de researchgroep Jeugdzorg. Bij zijn afscheid als hoogleraar Orthopedagogiek kijkt Erik Knorth terug op wat er vanuit zijn team in twaalf jaar tijd aan nieuwe inzichten kon worden toegevoegd aan de kennis over de zorg voor jeugd. In deze uitgave doet hij daarvan verslag.
