Mark Brewster (1822-1917) was born in Waltham, Lincolnshire, England, the son of John Brewster and Elizabeth Hardy. He married Jane Ann Atkey in 1851. They had ten children, of whom one, Theophilus Atkey, emigrated to the United States.
A Bradham Family History and Genealogy
Bradhams are believed to have arrived in South Carolina from Virginia or North Carolina before 1750. There is evidence that some of them, including James Randolph Bradham, whose descendants are the focus of this work, participated in the Revolutionary War with General Thomas Sumter and General Francis Marion. This, the first of three books, takes the reader from Baker’s childhood experiences that contributed to his education as a leader, both in the military and in academia. At age sixteen he joined the South Carolina National Guard, where he served as a communicator in a 155 Howitzer Battery, in Sumter, South Carolina. On Christmas Eve, 1949, his mother, in desperate straits, took the life of his alcoholic father. Thereafter, the court finding her “not responsible” for her actions, she was institutionalized.
