Grid Resource Management

Grid Resource Management: State of the Art and Future Trends presents an overview of the state of the field and describes both the real experiences and the current research available today. Grid computing is a rapidly developing and changing field, involving the shared and coordinated use of dynamic, multi-institutional resources. Grid resource management is the process of identifying requirements, matching resources to applications, allocating those resources, and scheduling and monitoring Grid resources over time in order to run Grid applications as efficiently as possible. While Grids have become almost commonplace, the use of good Grid resource management tools is far from ubiquitous because of the many open issues of the field, including the multiple layers of schedulers, the lack of control over resources, the fact that resources are shared, and that users and administrators have conflicting performance goals.

Achievements in European Research on Grid Systems

This volume comprises the edited proceedings of the second CoreGRID Integration Workshop, CGIW'2006, held October 2006 in Krakow, Poland. A "Network of Excellence" funded by the European Commission’s Sixth Framework Program, CoreGRID aims to strengthen and advance scientific and technological excellence in the area of Grid and Peer-to-Peer technologies by bringing together a critical mass of well-established researchers from 41 European research institutions. Designed for a professional audience of industry practitioners and researchers, the volume is also suitable for advanced-level students in computer science.

Integrated Research in GRID Computing

The aim of CoreGRID is to strengthen and advance scientific and technological excellence in the area of Grid and Peer-to-Peer technologies in order to overcome the current fragmentation and duplication of effort in this area. To achieve this objective, the workshop brought together a critical mass of well-established researchers from a number of institutions which have all constructed an ambitious joint program of activities. Priority in the workshop was given to work conducted in collaboration between partners from different research institutions and to promising research proposals that could foster such collaboration in the future.

For the last four decades, parallel computing platforms have increasingly formed the basis for the development of high performance systems primarily aimed at the solution of intensive computing problems, and the application of parallel computing systems has also become a major factor in furthering scientific research. But such systems also offer the possibility of solving the problems encountered in the processing of large-scale scientific data sets, as well as in the analysis of Big Data in the fields of medicine, social media, marketing, economics etc. This book presents papers from the International Research Workshop on Advanced High Performance Computing Systems, held in Cetraro, Italy, ...

Perspectives in Modern Project Scheduling

This book surveys the current state-of-the-art in operations research. The book summarizes the current developments and theoretical achievements in the field, including project uncertainty and grid resource management. It further covers the range of the key models in the field, including deterministic, probabilistic, single- and multi-mode, single- and multi-objective, and a general model on discrete-continuous resources.

Handbook on Parallel and Distributed Processing

Here, authors from academia and practice provide practitioners, scientists and graduates with basic methods and paradigms, as well as important issues and trends across the spectrum of parallel and distributed processing. In particular, they cover such fundamental topics as efficient parallel algorithms, languages for parallel processing, parallel operating systems, architecture of parallel and distributed systems, management of resources, tools for parallel computing, parallel database systems and multimedia object servers, as well as the relevant networking aspects. A chapter is dedicated to each of parallel and distributed scientific computing, high-performance computing in molecular sciences, and multimedia applications for parallel and distributed systems.
