"I like writers who believe in the word with every bone, and Jayinee Basu is one of those poets who writes with her flesh, her skin, with every hair on her body, with every single one of her bones. When I was reading Asuras, it occurred to me that I was imagining its author as a kind of double-edged knife: one side sharpened very thin with a poisoned edge, the other a kind of mirror in which poetry made us softer, more meticulous, more sincere with our dreams. -Luna Miguel, author of Bluebird and Other Tattoos

The epic tale of victory and defeat... The story of the Ramayana had been told innumerable times. The enthralling story of Rama, the incarnation of God, who slew Ravana, the evil demon of darkness, is known to every Indian. And in the pages of history, as always, it is the version told by the victors, that lives on. The voice of the vanquished remains lost in silence. But what if Ravana and his people had a different story to tell? The story of the Ravanayana had never been told. Asura is the epic tale of the vanquished Asura people, a story that has been cherished by the oppressed outcastes of India for 3000 years. Until now, no Asura has dared to tell the tale. But perhaps the time has com...
The book elaborates the basic principles of Auction Theory in a non-technical language so as to make them easily accessible to even those not trained in the discipline. Auctions as allocation mechanisms have been in use across the world since antiquity and are still employed in different countries for purchase and sales of a wide range of objects, both by governments and by private agents. Auction has gained popularity over other allocation mechanisms since the rules of auctions are very precise, involve much less subjective judgements compared to other alternative allocation mechanisms and lead to a more efficient process of discovering the true willingness of the buyers to pay. Moreover, the principles of Auction Theory are used in other contexts, for example in designing contests, or in controlling emission levels through allocation of permits and licenses.
"If I were to make a diorama of 'I Will Always Be Your Whore, ' I would construct three slightly run-down Victorians: one for past, one for present, one for dream. I would make a spooky ghost figure representing Billy Corgan and suspend that over everything. And then I would have the people inside the dioramas yearn and fuck and spill their tea and fidget with their hair ties. Alexandra Naughton writes about love and desire with a pleasing specificity and the cadence of a rapper, and her great achievement with this book is her invention of Corgan as a mutable muse. As ghost, lover, crush, and memory, Corgan haunts the fuck out of this text, making the poems below quake and join together." -Amy Berkowitz, poet & author of 'Listen to Her Heart', Spooky Girlfriend Press
