Studies in Imagery: Texts and images
Dr Jean Michel Massing is a Reader in the History of Art and a Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. The first volume of Studies in Imagery, Text and Images, consists of 25 "studies grouped under four sections: Classical Art and its Nachleben; Symbolic Languages; Saints and Devils; Comets, Dreams and Stars. The topics include the Celto-Roman "goddess Epona, the Calumny of Apelles and its reconstructions, the Triumph of Caesar, proverb illustration, the art of memory, emblematic and didactic imagery, the temptations of St Anthony, as well as dreams and celestial phenomena. They span a wide range of periods, from classical antiquity to the nineteenth century. Vol. 2, The World Discovered, deals variously with the relationship of European with non-European cultures, cartography in medieval and early modern times, the representation of foreign lands and people, and the collecting of exotic artefacts. A central theme involves the imagery of black Africans from the Middle Ages up to the nineteenth century.

Splendours of Flanders
This book records an important exhibition of late mediaeval Flemish art in Cambridge collections, held at the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, from July to September 1993. Included are paintings, sculpture, tapestry and coins from the Fitzwilliam Museum and Queens' College, and illuminated manuscripts, printed books and furniture from Cambridge University Library, from Girton, Gonville & Caius, King's, Peterhouse, St John's, Sidney Sussex and Trinity Colleges, and from the British Library and Holkham Hall. Many of the Manuscripts belonged to famous libraries of the Burgundian Netherlands, and all the leading illuminations then active in Flanders are represented. Three panels from Queens' College, recently attributed to the Master of the View of Sainte Gudule are perhaps the finest late mediaeval paintings from Brussels in Britain. Splendours of Flanders combines introductory essays and detailed catalogue entries. It is generously illustrated in colour and black and white.
King's College Chapel 1515-2015
This lavishly illustrated, interdisciplinary volume encompasses many aspects of the Chapel’s history from its foundation to the present day. The essays all represent new research, with a particular emphasis on areas that have not been investigated before: Chapel furnishings and art; the architectural engineering of the building and current state of the glass; the history of the Choir and the life of the Chapel, not least in recent centuries. Essays will engage with politics, drama, music, iconoclasm and aesthetics. This will be a serious academic book, but also a visually stimulating and beautiful one. It will contain two hundred and fifty colour reproductions of images of the Chapel - prints, watercolours, oil paintings, photographs, architectural drawings, plans, maps and even postcards, reflecting the many and varied responses that the Chapel has elicited over time.
