Research on the Cox family genealogy was begun by Rev. Simeon O. Coxe (1877-1955). Verl F. Weight (one of the many descendants of the Cox family) and Mrs. Charles W. Cox (Willie Miller) further researched, compiled and published the information into the first edition in mimeographed copies in 1962. When time took its toll on these copies and years of work began to fade away, Mary Carol Cox volunteered to retype and publish As A Tree Grows into a paperback book.

Crusade in the Classroom

Accountability. Standards. Choice. Readiness. You've heard the buzzwords of school reform. You've heard the campaign promises. Now, as these policies are being put into action with the new administration, it's time to ask: How will these changes affect you? * What impact will annual testing have on your child? * How will federal funding reforms affect your child's school? * How should you interpret the "school report cards" that rate schools based on test scores? * How will you know which options are right for your child? * How will gifted children and students with learning disabilities be affected? In clear, jargon-free language, Dr. Douglas Reeves explains the Bush policies for school reform, predicts how these new programs will change our schools, and helps parents understand their options. Throughout this practical guide, profiles of "Innovators to Watch" illustrate how early tests of these policies have played out in schools across the country.

This legislative hearing focuses on Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota's drug-prevention efforts. The emphasis here is on the efforts of rural states, rural communities, rural schools, and families to combat drug and alcohol abuse. Drug-free school programs are particularly emphasized. Also discussed are the issues various drug-prevention programs face, such as funding needs, the allocation of resources, the special problems faced by Native Americans, and other concerns. In addition to personal testimonies, which are recorded here verbatim, are a number of prepared statements by educators, project administrators, and students. (RJM)
