The first Pretzer family to immigrate to America was that of Karl Pretzer of Löcknitz (1810-1899) and his wife Esther (d. 1899). They left Hamburg on the ship "Auguste and Anges" on April 1, 1854 for New York. They first lived on farms in Macomb Co., Michigan until ca. 1880, when most of the family left Clinton Twp. and moved to Richland Twp., Saginaw Co., Michigan. The earliest known ancestor, Johann Heinrich Pretzer (ca. 1695-1776), died in Blumenthal, Pommern. His first wife was Anna Catherina Lofer (or Leter) (1705-1755). He married (2) 1756 Maria Barbara Junge (widow Hennen) (1705-1761). Family members live in Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, Kansas, Texas, Minnesota, Dakotas and elsewhere.
For author Philippe de Vosjoli, “art is the actualization of a personal vision or message,” and de Vosjoli’s passion is snakes, which he believes are among the most beautiful animals on earth. This Advanced Vivarium Systems title includes information about selecting and purchasing a healthy boa constrictor, proper housing and maintenance needs, feeding, and safe handling. Dr. Roger Klingenberg, a herp veterinary specialist, has written...

"In 1875 Anne Whitney traveled to Florence, Italy, to select the marble for a statue of Samuel Adams commissioned for the U.S. Capitol. That summer, in a small village outside Paris, she noticed a woman who worked as a model for the local sculptors. Not the typical artists model, the woman was quite old and would often drowse while sitting for them, her kerchiefed head fallen forward in sleep. Later, when Whitney returned to America, she brought with her not only the completed statue for her respectable commission but the far less conventional Le Modèle, a deeply human image of the old woman. Created at a time when such subjects as the old and the poor were rarely given attention, Whitney's...
