Jeremiah "Jerry" P. Thomas is considered the father of American mixology. In 1851, at the age of 21, he opened his first bar below Barnum's American Museum in New York City. After that he worked as the head bartender at hotels and bars throughout the US, he also visited Europe. Jerry Thomas was well known for his showmanship and fancy style of mixing cocktails. At some point he was among the most famous citizens of New York City. In 1862 Jerry Thomas finished his work "Bar-Tender's Guide", probably the first book of its kind ever published in the US. It contained a collection of traditional recipes as well as some of his own creations. The present book is a reprint of the updated edition of the Bar-Tender's Guide which has been published in 1887, two years after his early death.

Did It! From Yippie to Yuppie

This is a coffee table art book and biography of Yippie Jerry Rubin. This overstuffed coffee table book is not only the first biography of the infamous and ubiquitous Jerry Rubin―co-founder of the Yippies, Anti-Vietnam War activist, Chicago 8 defendant, social-networking pioneer, and a proponent of the Yuppie era―but a visual retrospective, with countless candid photos, personal diaries, and lost newspaper clippings. It includes correspondence with Abbie Hoffman, Norman Mailer, John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Eldridge Cleaver, the Weathermen, and interviews with more than 75 of Rubin’s friends, foes, and comrades. It reveals Rubins' and the Yippies’ historical-and-bizarre personal interactions with the likes of Allen Ginsberg, Bob Dylan, Charles Manson, Mick Jagger, and other iconic figures of the era.

Thomas Jefferson

Virtually no subject--politics, slavery, religion, gardening, music, architecture, natural history, or science to name a few--escaped the interest and attention of Thomas Jefferson. Through nearly 800 excerpts of Jefferson's writing, ranging in length from one sentence to nearly a page, Thomas Jefferson: A Chronology of His Thoughts, allows readers to share in Jefferson's greatest triumphs and achievements and reflects on the moments that truly tested the very fiber of his soul, publicly and privately. From the glory of crafting the Declaration of Independence and assuming the mantle of leadership as the Republic's third president, through his moral struggle with slavery and the agony of losing his young wife and daughter, Jerry Holmes chronicles Jefferson's life through his own words. Thomas Jefferson: A Chronology of His Thoughts will fascinate both the serious Jefferson scholar as well as curious newcomers.

Doubting Thomas

Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers intended a strict separation of church and state, right? He would have been very upset to find out about a child praying in a public school or a government building used for religious purposes, correct? Actually, the history on this has been very distorted. While Jefferson may seem to be the Patron Saint of the ACLU, his words and actions showed that he would totally disagree with the idea of driving God out of the public square. Doubting Thomas documents that ... Jefferson said that our rights come from God. God-given rights are non-negotiables ... At the time that he wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Virginia Statute for Religious Freed...
