Paul Wojdak’s father, Pawel, was born in 1912 in Novosibirsk, Siberia. During the 1800s, many Polish people were banished to Siberia for rising against czarist Russia’s repressive policies aimed to destroy Polish language and culture, and they eventually lived in Siberia for generations. By the 1920s, war and chaos followed the Russian Revolution, and Poles were cast as “enemies of the people,” fleeing east as refugees. Most died from disease, starvation, cold, or violence, including Pawel’s parents, and many Polish children were tragically trapped in Siberia—a seven-year-old Pawel among them. Opowieść o poszukiwaniu człowieczeństwa w mrocznych realiach szesnastowiecznej Rzeczpospolitej i Europy, obserwowanej z poziomu szafotu. Pełna postaci znanych i z przypowieści, i z historycznych annałów. Kunsztowna mozaika faktów, legend i bajań. Szczera do bólu, przerażająco realna i ostra niczym brzytwa. Rafał Dębski w mistrzowskiej formie zaprasza w podróż do krainy boleśnie sprawiedliwej pomsty. Do miejsc kaźni, o których istnieniu nie chciałbyś wiedzieć. Do historii, o których wolałbyś zapomnieć. Na spotkanie z kimś, kogo nie chciałbyś poznać. Fantasy z krwi i kości serwowane bez znieczulenia. Miłosierdzie zostaje za drzwiami. Sam się o to prosiłeś. Czytaj i niechaj kat ci świeci!

National parks and protected areas offer a wealth of ecological and social contributions or services to humans and life on earth. This book describes the strengths of national parks and protected areas in different parts of Europe and North America and the challenges to the full realization of their goals. It shows that they are useful not only in conserving rare species and biodiversity, but also in protecting water supply and other resources necessary to tourism and to economic and social development generally. Ideas and information on useful planning, management and decision-making arrangements are presented, and research needs are identified.
