Disparities in Mental Health

Health inequity not only has tremendous economic burden, but also impairs the foundations of social justice in any society. The current state of scientific knowledge supports the existence of significant inequities and disparities between different social groups. A significant part of our understanding of the health inequities lies in the realm of physical diseases, though mental health’s nature makes it more vulnerable to disparities. Mental health issues are sensitive matters that require additional trust, cultural appropriateness, acceptance, and support from healthcare providers and healthcare systems. As a result, not only mental health patients are at risk of disparities that exist in physical diseases, but they also face other challenges such as social stigma, language barriers, and fear of treatment that could result in disparities. Considering all these, we need to understand where the inequities are in the realm of mental health and who is being affected the most. We also need to know the existing policies and their effectiveness and efficiency. And with all these, then, we could plan how to decrease mental health disparities and provide welfare to all.

China's Rural Areas

The prosperity of China’s people has advanced very much in recent decades. However, in many respects China is still a developing country, and this is especially true of rural areas where economic progress has not been as marked as in urban areas and where many people still live in relative poverty. The Chinese government recognizes that more hard work is needed in order to improve prosperity in the countryside. This book provides a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the situation in China’s rural areas, assesses the effectiveness or otherwise of current policies, and puts forward proposals for further development. Subjects covered include the changing population profile of rural areas, land ownership, agricultural improvements, and local self-government.

Chinese Philosophy on Teaching and Learning

Written over two and a half millennia ago, the Xueji (On Teaching and Learning) is one of the oldest and most comprehensive works on educational philosophy and teaching methods, as well as a consideration of the appropriate roles of teachers and students. The Xueji was included in the Liji (On Ritual), one of the Five Classics that became the heart of the educational system during China's imperial era, and it contains the ritual protocols adopted by the Imperial Academy during the Han dynasty. Chinese Philosophy on Teaching and Learning provides a new translation of the Xueji along with essays exploring this work from both Western and Chinese perspectives. Contributors examine the roots of educational thought in classical Chinese philosophy, outline similarities and differences with ideas rooted in classical Greek thought, and explore what the Xueji can offer educators today.

Machine Learning for Text

This second edition textbook covers a coherently organized framework for text analytics, which integrates material drawn from the intersecting topics of information retrieval, machine learning, and natural language processing. Particular importance is placed on deep learning methods. The chapters of this book span three broad categories:1. Basic algorithms: Chapters 1 through 7 discuss the classical algorithms for text analytics such as preprocessing, similarity computation, topic modeling, matrix factorization, clustering, classification, regression, and ensemble analysis. 2. Domain-sensitive learning and information retrieval: Chapters 8 and 9 discuss learning models in heterogeneous setti...

Comprehensive Coverage of the Entire Area of Classification Research on the problem of classification tends to be fragmented across such areas as pattern recognition, database, data mining, and machine learning. Addressing the work of these different communities in a unified way, Data Classification: Algorithms and Applications explores the underlying algorithms of classification as well as applications of classification in a variety of problem domains, including text, multimedia, social network, and biological data. This comprehensive book focuses on three primary aspects of data classification: Methods-The book first describes common techniques used for classification, including probabilis...
