O interesse da sociedade pelo modo como os poderes e direitos são exercidos no âmbito esportivo, sobretudo no Futebol, esporte mais popular do mundo, demonstra o quanto as pessoas comuns se interessam pelo assunto, nem que seja simplesmente para possuir mais argumentos convincentes na discussão de bar com os amigos.
