Follow the Maid
The book follows the sites and stages of the migration process of Indonesian domestic workers. First the Indonesian migration regime, short-term contract labour to wealthier parts of Asia and Middle East, is considered. Using the example of the Javanese village of Kalembah in Central Java, the second chapter discusses how and why women leave the tea plantation fields. Other topics of the book include how gendered ideals about mobility enable men to act as brokers for domestic worker migration, domestic work trainings of Indonesian women and the illegalisation of domestic workers in Malaysia. Finally, the temporary character of labour migration is discussed. On the one hand Indonesian domestic workers are expected and legally required to return 'home'. However, many return migrants remain temporarily in the village seeking new employment often in new foreign destinations.

Emotions, Senses and Affects in the Context of Southeast Europe
The papers in this volume continue our focus on emotions of people in Southeast Europe. Grief and sadness are, of course, universal, but they take on different forms of expression. Strong emotional values are often attached to specific foods (e.g. the kurban), usually food is of great importance for labour migrants and in times of crisis. Likewise, dress can be of great emotional significance and value. Wars as well as communist collectivization often lead to emotional consequences such as trauma. Smells and tastes can become expressions of actual or remembered emotions, a fact that can also concern the researchers themselves. Recuperating The Global Migration of Nurses
Sitting at the nexus of labor migration and health care work, this book examines the dynamic relationship between nurses’ cross-border movement and efforts to regulate their migration. Grounded in multi-sited qualitative research, this volume analyzes the changing social dimensions and transnational scale of global nursing, focusing particularly on the recruitment from the Philippines to Germany. The flow of nursing skills from resource-poor countries to well-off ones is not only producing a global care crisis, but also serves as a prime example of the international race for talent and skill. As it takes a critical eye to the emerging field of migration governance or management as the preferred policy response to competing discourses of global care crises and the global competition for skilled care work, this book highlights not only the shifting web of actors, discourses, and practices in care work migration management, but also, and more importantly, how various forms of care figure in the global migration of nurses.
