Als der Danziger Großkaufmann, Johan Pyre, im Jahre 1455 verstarb, hinterließ er ein Kaufmannsbuch, in welches er umfassende Daten und Details zu seiner 35-jährigen Geschäftstätigkeit eingetragen hatte. Das Buch zählt zu den hansischen Kaufmannsbüchern und zeugt von den vielfältigen Facetten des hansischen Handels in einer politisch bewegten und spannungsreichen Zeit. In der Forschungsliteratur wird dieses älteste Danziger Kaufmannsbuch zwar gelegentlich zitiert, ist bisher aber nur unzureichend untersucht worden. Diesem Desiderat nimmt sich Anna Paulina Orlowska in ihrem vorliegenden, zweibändigen Werk nun an.
