Why Give?

Why Give? employs a powerful and gripping metaphor for giving-that God created us to be like rivers. Devries points out that the Bible begins in Genesis and ends in Revelation with a picture of a river. "We are born again to be rivers" he explains, with life flowing in and out of us. Devries points out that our living and giving provides seven wonderful things to the world around us: the gift of Christ's presence, the power of Christ, the provisions of Christ, the perfection of Christ, the resurrection of Christ, the comfort of His eternal reign, and the comfort of Christ's return In these 40 days of daily meditations, Devries also make the case that giving unlocks God's infinite resources. If we give in order to get for ourselves, we succumb to the heretical "prosperity" doctrine. Instead, Devries explains, we give in order to get in order to give even more! The result of this kind of giving is joy-becoming more like God, experiencing sympathy for others, discovering God's infinite resources, feeling a renewed joy within, following Christ's example, connecting with the grace of God that inspires more giving and joy, and motivating others to give.

In this third book of John DeVries' easy to read devotionals,(see also Why Pray? and Why Give?) the author develops the six verses of Psalm 23 into 42 daily devotions. The comforting themes of this very familiar psalm are presented in a fresh and relevant way targeting our fear-filled world. The book is divided into six thematic sections; belonging, provision, restoraton, protection, victory, and security, and within each section, Devries gives seven practical ways to daily apply and meditate upon each verse. Each daily meditation is followed by a reflection question to consider or discuss with others. There are also six "wrap-up" exercises after every section that can be used for small-group discussions or family devotions around the kitchen table. This litle booklet is a perfect gift for people facing fearful times in their lives or even as an evangelism tool for churches and individual Christians who minister to broken and fear-filled people.

Author John DeVries wrote this commentary/Bible study booklet to enable the average person to read and understand the meaning of the book of Revelation. DeVries believes that the book of Revelation gives us a bird's eye view of what God is doing in our world, and will continue to do until Christ returns. The book of Revelation gives 7 widows to look out, as if looking out the window of a sky-scraper, so that we can view the earth and heaven from the Lord's perspective.

God's Mission Vision

"Does your concept of good in your Mission Vision match God's concept of good in his Mission Vision? We pray that God's Mission Vision is your Mission Vision, and that this little book will help you see if your Mission Vision matches God's. Each of the first fourteen chapters explores one of the ways God's Mission Vision can be described; the final five chapters deal with the way in which Mission India is putting God's Mission Vision to work."--From the Author, page ii

Many churches and believers deeply struggle with this topic. This writing sets out the correct Biblical rules and guidelines to guide believers, how they should deal with marriage problems to hopefully avoid a divorce. This book focusses on the Bible doctrinal truths involved in both Bible acceptable divorce and remarriage theology. This book provides a mental surgery of understanding, how we are to follow Bible textual rules of engagement to resolve conflict. There are Christ given directions to resolve relational conflict, which are rarely applied. These need to be taught by churches and ministry. Due to a lack in this pursuit, many Christians experience needless divorces. This problem is ...

The book celebrates Rev. Dr. Pierre and Judy Allard’s fifty years of reconciliation ministry by weaving their life experiences within broader initiatives started within Canada and overseas. Three quality moments of time, referred to as kairotic events within the contemporary history of corrections and chaplaincy, are identified. The rise of prison visitation and ex-offender reintegration organizations across Canada in the 1960s and 70s represents the first quality moment of time. Rev. Dr. Pierre Allard’s collaboration with Correctional Service Canada Commissioner Ole Ingstrup in the early 1980s in developing a new Mission Statement for the Service represents a second kairotic moment. Pierre and Judy Allard’s establishment of Just Equipping in 2006 as a response to an international call to bring about reconciliation between offenders and victims in Rwanda and other countries in Africa represents a third quality moment of time. The book analyses these three historical occasions and weaves them together with nine other Canadian chaplains’ stories of prison ministry.
