Unequal Health

Unequal Health asks why some individuals are living longer and enjoying better health than others. By considering popular beliefs about the relevance of such factors as sex, race, poverty, and health habits, Grace Budrys moves beyond factors that receive a great deal of media attention-such as smoking, diet, exercise, and even genetic inheritance-and examines those factors that are far more difficult to identify and track, such as relative income and relative social status.

Refiguring the Map of Sorrow

Recent decades have witnessed an explosion of interest in both autobiography and environmental literature. In Refiguring the Map of Sorrow, Mark Allister brings these two genres together by examining a distinct form of grief narrative, in which the writers deal with mourning by standing explicitly both outside and inside the text: outside in writing about the natural world; inside in making that exposition part of the grieving process. Attention! Roma on the Road

Kirja on osa romani-trilogiaa. The book is part of the Roma Trilogy. This first volume (published in Finnish in 2012) considers the arrival of Eastern European Roma in Finland and examines the realisation of the EU’s free movement directive and human rights in countries of departure and arrival. The effects of Roma policies are evaluated on the level of international and national policies, as well as in relation to the everyday lives of Roma street workers and the motives behind migration. The second volume (2020) focuses on solidarity activism in Helsinki; the third volume will give voice to the migrants themselves.
