Text of a talk given by the author in 15 April 1992 at Darwin's State Library of the Northern Territory, as part of the 'Under the Banyan Tree' series of lunchtime entertainments. Tells the story of Government Resident, John Knight, who died in 1892. An avid Territorian, Knight held many public offices and designed many of Darwin's civic buildings. The paper focuses on the last 12 years of Knight's life. Referenced.
