When punk first broke in the UK in 1976, music journalist John Ingham was on hand to document the very heart of the scene. He famously conducted the first-ever interview with the Sex Pistols (for "Sounds," in April 1976), partied with them, bailed Sid Vicious out of jail and witnessed the band's evolution at historic gigs ; he also wrote the first reviews of The Damned and The Clash. Later, Ingham would launch and manage Generation X. "Spirit of 76 "provides a previously unseen view of the beginning of the punk movement, with portraits of the Sex Pistols, The Clash, Subway Sect and The Damned at the very beginnings of their careers--the only color photographs from this first wave of British punk (as well as many black-and-white images). Alongside Ingham's photographs, the book also includes his fly-on-the-wall reportage from gigs and tours. Ingham's pedigree as a writer (he studied music journalism with Robert Christgau at Cal Arts in Los Angeles) as well as his credibility among the musicians of the era make this volume an essential missive from the core of the UK punk explosion

Blood-Eagle Saga

Deep frozen midwinter in a Viking warlord’s longhouse. From the snow emerges a white-haired saga-teller, Snorri, who offers to entertain the drunken warband. Sven Ravenfeeder agrees – but drops a noose around Snorri’s neck and tells him: “If we like your story, you will live...” So begins the Blood-Eagle Saga – a tale of greed and betrayal, courage and cowardice, that takes rival Viking longships across the Atlantic to a new world of depravity. In the menacing forests and on the vast bison-rich plains, Viking enemies Grim and his former right-hand man Asgeir battle over honour and treasure. Along the way, they find themselves in another equally proud and brutal warrior culture, that of the native Americans. Throughout Asgeir is helped by his muse, Mary, a shape-shifting former Irish slave who has every reason to hate Grim. At the heart of the saga is one burning question that sends Sven and his men into a frenzy – who will be the victim of the Vikings’ favourite torture – The Blood-Eagle?

Chemical Engineering Dynamics

In this book, the modelling of dynamic chemical engineering processes is presented in a highly understandable way using the unique combination of simplified fundamental theory and direct hands-on computer simulation. The mathematics is kept to a minimum, and yet the nearly 100 examples supplied on www.wiley-vch.de illustrate almost every aspect of chemical engineering science. Each example is described in detail, including the model equations. They are written in the modern user-friendly simulation language Berkeley Madonna, which can be run on both Windows PC and Power-Macintosh computers. Madonna solves models comprising many ordinary differential equations using very simple programming, i...

Psychological Anthropology Reconsidered

John Ingham reviews recent developments in pyschological anthropology and argues for an eclectic approach that finds room for psychoanalytic, dialogical, and social perspectives on personality and culture. The argument is developed with special reference to human nature, child development, personality, and mental disorder, and it draws on studies set in many different cultures. He also shows the relevance of some recent work in psychoanalysis and child development to current concerns in anthropology with agency and rhetoric.

Spirit of 76

When punk first broke in the UK in 1976, music journalist John Ingham was on hand to document the very heart of the scene. Struck by the music, fashion and sheer iconoclasm of a little-known outfit called the Sex Pistols, Ingham conducted the first interview with the band, partied with its members and even bailed Sid Vicious out of jail; he also witnessed and documented the group¿s evolution at legendary gigs shared with other pioneering punk bands in their earliest days, including the Damned, the Clash, Subway Sect and more. The result is Spirit of 76: London Punk Eyewitness, a revelatory collection of photography and fly-on-the-wall reportage showcasing the punk movement from its most rau...
