Most deal with the social occasions of Young's long friendship with Daly. Many mention General William Sherman; Sir Henry Irving, Ada Rehan and other theatrical people are often discussed. (1) is an invitation to dinner for Charles Dickens. (15) concerns a suppressed play by Francois Copée. (69) discusses the genius of Eugene Field. Several letters have newspaper clippings attached. Some letters undated. Correspondents: Augustin Daly, Richard Dorney and Walter S. Logan.

Young reminds Winter of their dinner to meet General Grant. He knows Mr. Jefferson (presumably Joe Jefferson) is not free for dinner, but suggests that Winter and Jefferson come to the Reform Club on Sunday.

The letters mostly discuss Winter's writings and other literary matters; several mention Ada Rehan and others are invitations to meet for various events. (1) on letterhead of The Lotos Club; (2) letterhead of the Langham Hotel, London; (3-7) on letterhead of the Union League, Philadelphia; (8-10) on letterhead of the Library of Congress, Washington. With (1) is an accompanying envelope addressed to Winter at the New York Tribune, New York City; with (6) is a printed visiting card of Mr. John Russel Young, 1507 Poplar Street, with a manuscript New Year's greeting.
