John Seven Signs

The Hidden Meaning Behind Jesus' Miracles The Author rediscovers hidden meanings that the apostle John leaves clues to in the accounts he wrote in his gospel. The Gospel of John

In this first issue, we see Jesus, a humble man, who lived in first-century Israel is different than any other man. A certain man named John the Baptist knows who Jesus is, that is, God's one and only Son who came to the earth for a special purpose. We see John meets Jesus and declares who He is. Later, Jesus does a miracle at a wedding celebration, and everyone there is amazed and delighted. After that, Jesus and his followers and his family go to Jerusalem where all the Israelites gather to worship God. Jesus, in His love for His Father who is God, expels those who are exploiting the holy area of the temple built for God in Jerusalem. Everyone, including the religious leaders, are shocked at Jesus's righteous indignation. One of the religious leaders, named Nicodemus, knows of the incredible things Jesus has done and visits Him. Jesus teaches the religious leader about God's wisdom and declares God's love for mankind. And then John again tells religious pilgrims who Jesus really is. This is the illustrated book of the story of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, as told by the author, also named John, who was a disciple of Jesus and a witness to all that was done by Jesus.

What did the writer of Genesis mean by “the first day”? Is it a literal week or a series of time periods? If I believe that the earth is 4.5 billion years old, am I denying the authority of Scripture? In response to the continuing controversy over the interpretation of the creation narrative in Genesis, John Lennox proposes a succinct method of reading and interpreting the first chapters of Genesis without discounting either science or Scripture. With examples from history, a brief but thorough exploration of the major interpretations, and a look into the particular significance of the creation of human beings, Lennox suggests that Christians can heed modern scientific knowledge while staying faithful to the biblical narrative. He moves beyond a simple response to the controversy, insisting that Genesis teaches us far more about the God of Jesus Christ and about God’s intention for creation than it does about the age of the earth. With this book, Lennox offers a careful yet accessible introduction to a scientifically-savvy, theologically-astute, and Scripturally faithful interpretation of Genesis.

Seven Days with the Gospel of John

John's gospel reads like a detective story with its intriguing questions: "What are you looking for?" "What have I done for you?" "Do you love me?" "Do you now believe?" The numerous characters in this story are always in a relationship with Jesus. From the first person to the very last one, they slowly discover who Jesus really is. During this "retreat" Fr. Donders guides us in following the developments -- the ups and downs -- of the discovery made by the persons who surround Jesus. He offers meditations for both morning and evening, as well as points for prayer and action. Here we follow Jesus as he is seen by so many others: in his moments of teaching, healing, suffering, and glory. In so doing we will be drawn into our own story, to learn not only what the life of Jesus is about, but also what our own lives are about. Seven Days with the Gospel of John provides an excellent prayer experience for individuals and groups and serves as a study guide for those who wish to delve more deeply into the most sublime of all the gospel accounts. John Gribbin, author of Six Impossible Things, shortlisted for the Royal Society Insight Investment Science Book Prize, presents a tour of seven fundamental scientific truths that underpin our very existence. These 'pillars of science' also defy common sense. For example, solid things are mostly empty space, so how do they hold together? There appears to be no special 'life force', so how do we distinguish living things from inanimate objects? And why does ice float on water, when most solids don't? You might think that question hardly needs asking, and yet if ice didn't float, life on Earth would never have happened. The answers to all of these questions were sensational in their day, and some still are. Throughout history, science has been able to think the unthinkable - and Gribbin brilliantly shows the surprising secrets on which our understanding of life is based.
