Marriages and Deaths from the Maryland Gazette, 1727-1839
The "Maryland Gazette" was published in Annapolis between the years 1727 and 1839. From its infancy it carried occasional references to marriages and deaths of Maryland citizens. Drawing on this unique resource, the text of Mr. Barnes' book consists of abstracts of approximately 3,000 marriages and deaths of Marylanders--not only from the Annapolis area but from the entire state. A surname index to brides, ministers, and others, including parents and relatives, serves as a guide to an additional 2,000 persons.
The Crabb Family
The first Crabbs from England crossed the Atlantic in small wooden ships in the 17th century and settled in Massachusetts, Virginia, and Maryland. This book presents American Crabbs from the Colonial Age to the present; the first chapter discusses Crabbs in England, Scotland, Ireland, and Canada. Ralph Crab (1690-1734) married Priscilla Sprigg (1699-1763) in 1716 and lived in Maryland with a family of 9 children. Includes the families of Smith, Threlkeld, Coons, Greenfield, Krebs and others.
The Watkins Families
John Watkins, 3rd married in 1688 and their first son, John Watkins, 4th was born in Maryland in 1696. His son, Nicholas Watkins, Sr. is the father of Jeremiah Watkins who married Margaret Lamb in 1703. Their descendants lived mostly in the East. .
