All cultures have children and young people whose emotional wellbeing requires attention and whose behaviours give them, their peers and those who care for them challenges in how to meet their needs. Developing good practice across work with children and young people with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties relies on both professional practice and theory. The chapters in this book are taken from those presented at the International Conference organised by SEBDA in 2010 around the theme ‘Transforming Troubled Lives’, with each contributor addressing issues of policy, practice or provision whilst exploring an essential question: is what we are doing effective? This critical reflective question is essential if interventions – be they in provision, policy or practice – are to lead to positive outcomes for the children and young people concerned. This book was originally published as a special issue of Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.

Sid and Marty Krofft
H.R. Pufnstuf, Lidsville, Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, Land of the Lost: For a generation of children growing up in the late sixties and early seventies, these were some of the most memorable shows on Saturday morning television. At a time when television cartoons had lost some of their luster, two puppeteers named Sid and Marty Krofft put together a series of shows that captivated children. Using colorful sets and mysterious lands full of characters that had boundless energy, the Kroffts created a new form of children's television, rooted in the medium's earliest shows but nevertheless original in its concept. This work first provides a history of the Kroffts' pretelevision career, then offers discussions of their 11 Saturday morning shows. Catasauqua and North Catasauqua Revisited
In 1900, Catasauqua was one of the wealthiest communities in America. Its electric-lighted streets were lined with businesses, stores, row houses, and ornate mansions. But when iron making ended in 1920, the "Iron Borough's" golden age soon began to fade. Compared to its booming industrial atmosphere in the 19th century, life in Catasauqua and North Catasauqua during the 20th century became quintessentially small town. Though Fuller Company and Phoenix Forge were nationally known in their own industries and the silk mills still wove luxury fabric for New York designers, many people moved elsewhere in the Lehigh Valley to work. Those who remained put down even deeper roots, buying the once-company-owned workers' houses or raising large baby-boom families in the old mansions. Church and school defined lives, and civic groups, service organizations, and sports teams provided fun, fellowship, and a sense of community.
