The Ideology of Burgundy
This book is a collection of eight essays on the ideology of Burgundy, dealing with the body of ideas, images, institutions and narrative fictions produced at the behest of the Valois dukes to create and maintain their incipient domanial state in the period from roughly 1364 to the 1560s. Nation building requires an ideological framework and the successive dukes, their officers and their court intellectuals all contributed to a self-determinative image of Burgundy which became visible in their literature, in their quest for a regal title, in the foundation of the Order of the Golden Fleece and in their propaganda. The essays approach the themes of the collection from the perspective of several disciplines, and together present a well-rounded picture of Burgundian nation-building. Contributors include: D’A.J.D. In Communes and Conflict, Jan Dumolyn and Jelle Haemers explore the urban rebellions that regularly erupted in Flanders between the thirteenth and sixteenth centuries. They analyse not only how these rebellions were sparked and repressed, but also how they shaped the culture and identity of Flemish townspeople. Drawing from a wide range of theoretical methods and concepts, including those of discourse analysis, semiotics, speech acts, collective memory and material cultural studies, the authors return to key Marxist questions on ideology, labour and class interest to map the perspectives of the rebels, the urban patriciate and the Flemish and Burgundian nobility.

The North Carolina Historical and Genealogical Register
Chief among its contents we find abstracts of land grants, court records, conveyances, births, deaths, marriages, wills, petitions, military records (including a list of North Carolina Officers and Soldiers of the Continental Line, 1775-1782), licenses, and oaths. The abstracts derive from records now located in the state archives and from the public records of the following present-day counties of the Old Albemarle region: Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Halifax, Hyde, Martin, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington, and the Virginia counties of Surry and Isle of Wight.

This selection comprises the most influential works written or printed by the Iberian Jews in the major centers of the Western Sephardi Diaspora (e.g., the Netherlands, France, Italy, Germany, England); it includes all genres and reflects both their religious and their secular culture. Many of the editions included in Meyer Kayserling's bibliography are exceedingly rare and are available only in specialized collections of Judaica. The aim of the present selection is to make the Sephardi heritage generally available in order to meet the needs of modern scholarship.
