The key feature of future mobile communication systems is the ability to deliver wideband and high bit-rate multimedia services alongside the traditional radio services such as voice, messaging and slow rate data. The broad range of services expected to be supported can be divided into different Quality of Service (QoS) classes. However, the provision of such mobile multimedia services under QoS guarantees will not be possible without a utilization of the air interface resources by means of Radio Resource Management (RRM) strategies that ensure the target QoS, the planned coverage area and that offer a high system capacity. Under this framework, the book focuses on the RRM concepts, includin...
Although sophisticated wireless radio technologies make it possible for unlicensed wireless devices to take advantage of un-used broadcast TV spectra, those looking to advance the field have lacked a book that covers cognitive radio in TV white spaces (TVWS). Filling this need, TV White Space Spectrum Technologies: Regulations, Standards and Applic
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Cognitive Radio-Oriented Wireless Networks, CROWNCOM 2020, held in Rome, Italy, in November 2020. Due to COVID-19 pandemic the conference was held virtually. The 13 revised full papers were selected from 28 submissions and present all major technical aspects related to cognitive radio and networks. The papers are organized in four sessions: spectrum sensing and environment awareness; resource sharing and optimization; verticals and applications; business models and spectrum management.
Considerable attention is currently devoted worldwide towards mobility issues and challenges such as those arising from the integration of the next generation Internet over terrestrial digital TV, mobile user location management and multi-service mobile networks subject to quality of service (QoS) routing. This book follows Heterogeneous Networks: Performance Modelling and Analysis, describes recent advances in mobile and wireless networks and the Internet reflecting the state-of-the-art technology and research achievements in mobility management, performance enhancement, optimal admission control and QoS worldwide.Technical topics discussed in the book include• Mobility Management;• Opti...
Over the recent years, a considerable amount of effort has been devoted, both in industry and academia, towards the performance modelling, evaluation and prediction of convergent multi-service heterogeneous networks, such as wireless and optical networks, towards the design and dimensioning of the next and future generation Internets. This book follows Heterogeneous Networks: Traffic Engineering, Performance Evaluation Studies and Tools and presents recent advances in networks of diverse technology reflecting the state-of-the-art technology and research achievements in performance modelling, analysis and applications worldwide.Technical topics discussed in the book include:• Multiservice Sw...
During recent years a great deal of progress has been made in performance modelling and evaluation of the Internet, towards the convergence of multi-service networks of diverging technologies, supported by internetworking and the evolution of diverse access and switching technologies. The 44 chapters presented in this handbook are revised invited works drawn from PhD courses held at recent HETNETs International Working Conferences on Performance Modelling and Evaluation of Heterogeneous Networks. They constitute essential introductory material preparing the reader for further research and development in the field of performance modelling, analysis and engineering of heterogeneous networks an...
Pervasive Mobile and Ambient Wireless Communications reports the findings of COST 2100, a project of the European intergovernmental COST framework addressing various topics currently emerging in mobile and wireless communications. Drawing on experience developed in this and earlier COST projects, the text represents the final outcome of collaborative work involving more than 500 researchers in 140 institutions and 30 countries (including outside Europe). The book’s subject matter includes: transmission techniques; signal processing; radio channel modelling and measurement; radio network issues; and recent paradigms including ultra-wideband, cooperative, vehicle-to-vehicle and body communications. The research reported comes from a variety of backgrounds: academic, equipment-manufacturing and operational and the information contained in this book will bring the study reported to a wider audience from all those spheres of work. Pervasive Mobile and Ambient Wireless Communications will be of interest to researchers for its cutting-edge analysis and to practitioners for its functional usability.
The diversity of methodologies and applications in the literature for the traffic engineering, performance modelling and analysis of convergent multiservice heterogeneous networks attests to the breath and richness of recent research and developments towards the design and dimensioning of the next and future generation Internets.Heterogeneous Networks: Traffic Engineering, Performance Evaluation Studies and Tools describes recent advances in networks of diverse technology reflecting the state-of-the-art technology and research achievements in traffic engineering, performance evaluation studies and tools worldwide. Technical topics presented in the book include:• Traffic Modelling and Chara...
Wireless communication is one of the most dynamic and vibrant areas of technology development in the communication field today. It has been found that severe climatic conditions disturb the propagation of electromagnetic signals at higher frequencies (greater than 30 MHz). The disturbance is mainly due to molecular absorption by oxygen for frequencies ranging between 60 and 118 GHz and due to water vapour in 22, 183 and 325 GHz bands. Rain and fog has the most significant impact, since the size of the rain drops is of the order of the wavelength of the transmitted signal. This results in energy absorption by the rain drops themselves, and as a secondary effect energy is scattered by the drop...
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Engineering Applications of Neural Networks, EANN 2017, held in Athens, Greece, in August 2017. The 40 revised full papers and 5 revised short papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 83 submissions. The papers cover the topics of deep learning, convolutional neural networks, image processing, pattern recognition, recommendation systems, machine learning, and applications of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) applications in engineering, 5G telecommunication networks, and audio signal processing. The volume also includes papers presented at the 6th Mining Humanistic Data Workshop (MHDW 2017) and the 2nd Workshop on 5G-Putting Intelligence to the Network Edge (5G-PINE).
