Logics of Evolution for the Contemporary Contexts

A collection of installments compiling the works of the students of the Master in Integrated Architectural Design during the academic year 2020/21. The course is organized in 5 logics: environmental, social, digital, tectonic and cultural through which the students explore how architectural design can adapt to the context in which they operate. This collection of installments compiles the works of the students of the Master in Integrated Architectural Design during the academic year 2020/21. The program objectives are to promote innovative architectural design integrated with the wide range of skills on technical and cultural knowledge that contemporary architecture demands. The course is or...

Progress in Mathematical Relativity, Gravitation and Cosmology

This book contains contributions from the Spanish Relativity Meeting, ERE 2012, held in Guimarães, Portugal, September 2012. It features more than 70 papers on a range of topics in general relativity and gravitation, from mathematical cosmology, numerical relativity and black holes to string theory and quantum gravity. Under the title "Progress in Mathematical Relativity, Gravitation and Cosmology," ERE 2012 was attended by an exceptional international list of over a hundred participants from the five continents and over forty countries. ERE is organized every year by one of the Spanish or Portuguese groups working in this area and is supported by the Spanish Society of Gravitation and Relativity (SEGRE). This book will be of interest to researchers in mathematics and physics.

Operative Mapping

Operative Mapping investigates the use of maps as a design tool, providing insight with the potential to benefit education and practice in the design disciplines. The book’s fundamental aim is to offer a methodological contribution to the design disciplines, both in conceptual and instrumental terms. When added to the resources of contemporary design, operative mapping overcomes the analytical and strictly instrumental approaches of maps, opening up the possibility of working both pragmatically and critically by acknowledging the need for an effective transformation of the milieu based on an understanding of pre-existing conditions. The approach is pragmatic, not only discussing the present but, above all, generating a toolbox to help expand on the objectives, methodologies and formats of design in the immediate future. The book joins together a review of the theoretical body of work on mapping from the social sciences with case studies from the past 30 years in architecture, planning and landscape design in the interest of linking past practices with future ones.

Unfinished

Spain was one of the countries where the practice of architecture has been most affected by the economic crisis. There are few places on earth where such large numbers of buildings were built in such a short period of time. The lack of reflection over whether these projects were necessary or valid resulted in the subsequent abandonment of many buildings when their completion or maintenance was discovered not to be economically viable. Their appearance throughout Spanish territories has generated a collection of unfinished buildings where the factor of time was eliminated from the formula for making architecture. The publication gathers examples of architecture produced during the past few years, born out of renunciation and economy of means, designed to evolve and adapt to future necessities and trusting in the beauty conferred by the passage of time.

Proceedings of the XXIII Spanish Relativity Meeting on Reference Frames and Gravitomagnetism

This book provides an authoritative overview of the developments in gravitomagnetism which have taken place in the last few years. In particular, experiments for measuring the Lense-Thirring effect with satellites orbiting the Earth are reviewed, and an updated list of references on gravitomagnetism is included. The book also presents diverse research in general relativity and cosmology. It will be of interest to graduate students and researchers in cosmology, astrophysics, astronomy, relativity and applied mathematics. Contents: Spacetime Splitting Techniques and Gravitoelectromagnetism in General Relativity (D Bini & R T Jantzen); Black Hole Astrophysics: Gravitomagnetism and Non Keplerian...

Inhomogeneous Cosmological Models - Proceedings Of The Spanish Relativity Meeting

This volume is devoted mainly to one of the more relevant subjects of the last two decades, namely, Inhomogeneous Cosmological Models. This subject has undergone a remarkable advance during the last decade, and the achievements attained have been quite numerous both from the observational and the theoretical point of view.

Recent Developments In Gravitation - Proceedings Of The "Relativity Meeting – 89"

This volume reviews some recent developments and new perspectives in classical and Quantum Gravity. The topics treated at a graduate level range from some new and old problems in General Relativity, algebraic computing, gravitational wave astronomy to some more speculative subjects as the early Universe, Quantum Gravity and Quantum Cosmology.
